pilldoc Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 http://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/preview?id=2014020002 FLYERS (Last Season: 42-30-10) at BRUINS (Last Season: 54-19-9)TV: NBCSN Season series: The Boston Bruins won all three games against the Philadelphia Flyers last season. The Bruins' biggest difference in the series came from their back end. Defenseman Zdeno Chara scored three of the Bruins' 14 goals, and goalie Tuukka Rask stopped 98 of 104 shots; that includes 49 saves in regulation and overtime and four saves in a five-round shootout as the Bruins won 4-3 March 30 at Wells Fargo Center. Flyers team scope: The Flyers are hopeful forward Wayne Simmonds is able to play Wednesday. Simmonds was off the ice for about a week after being hit in the foot blocking a shot during a Sept. 30 preseason game against the New York Rangers. He skated Monday and Tuesday and said he felt better. However, the Flyers will wait until Wednesday to make any official announcement. Simmonds, who had a career-best 29 goals last season and was third in the League with 15 power-play goals, is expected to be a big part of the Flyers' offense this season. Bruins team scope: David Krejci led the Bruins in scoring last season and centered their top line, but they'll have to get by without him for at least one game. The Bruins placed Krejci on injured reserve Tuesday. He sustained what coach Claude Julien called a "minor issue" during a preseason game Saturday and did not practice Tuesday. "It's still very minor but it hasn't healed as quickly as we would have liked," Julien said prior to Krejci going on IR. It's unclear how the Bruins' lines will look Wednesday. Ryan Spooner skated in Krejci's spot Tuesday with Milan Lucic at left wing and Jordan Caron and Matt Fraser splitting time at right wing. However, Caron was sent to the American Hockey League on Tuesday=============================================================================================== Ok folks, we waited all summer for the start of the season, well here we are. Story lines for tonight seem pretty obvious for me. How does VLS play? Now that he has been delegated to the 3rd line what can we expect? What will the 4th line show us? For the 1st time in forever (sorry had to get a line from the movie Frozen there ) this team does not have a true enforcer on the team. With the appearent increased speed from the 4th line, what are you expecting? Will there be any lingering effect of Giroux's preseason injury? He simply CANNOT start the season off as slow as he did last year. Can Mason play as well as he did last year? Finally the Blue-Line. Yeah the achilles heel for this team. We all the disaster in the making with Coburn and McDud as our #1 pairing. Will Del Zotto make any difference at all. Finally without Hartnell, how will this team respond when other teams, like the Bruins, will try to push them around. For the Bruins: Can Rask repeat as Veizna Trophy winner. Undoubtly one of the top 3 goalies in the league. Can he do a repeat performance? Can Loui Eriksson succeed on the top line? He is overcoming major concussion symptoms. Will defensman Seidenberg return to form after his injury last year?Brad Marchand simply needs to bounce back after a dismal start last year.Believe it or not, the Bruins have a pretty younger core. How they develop will be a question mark. We'll find out right our of the gate how the Flyers fare by going against probably the best team in the Eastern Conference. Though I am not expecting a win, I am expecting this team to play for a solid 60 minutes. I want to see them fight and scape for the the loose pucks and try to win some of the 1 on 1 battles. If they play hard for 60 minutes, then let the chips fall where they fall. PS: Hope to see everyone in game chat later this evening!!!!
brelic Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 3-1, Flyers. Goals by Giroux, Streit, and Bellemare
Digityman Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 3-2 Flyers. 2-2 game until 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Bryz makes 2 big saves in the final 25 seconds
pilldoc Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 Bryz makes 2 big saves in the final 25 seconds The Ghost of Christmas Past strikes again! LOL Bruins 4 (empty net goal)Flyers 2 Roo & VLC (just to show us he's not done yet) Grossman (-2) Flyers can't solve Rask
pilldoc Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 Flyers lose in shootout 4-3.... Do the Flyers ever practice the SO? Did I read right...did the NHL change the rules regarding the SO that the coach no longer has to submit his list of shooters prior to the beginning of the SO? If so..can this benefit the Flyers in anyway. I hate the SO and not just because the Flyers suck at it, for being a team sport you are deciding a game on individual skill sets. Goalie vs Shooter. Also I think I read, no more spin-o-rama's during the SO?
jackhole Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 0-0-0.......Hey, we're tied for 1st!! Keep it up boys
Poulin20 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 We typically start slow and have had much trouble with the Broons since we came back from the 3-0 deficit in 2010. I am going 4-2 Boston with an empty net.
Samifan Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 4-2 FlyersAkeson, VLC, Streit and Read with the ENG

Also I think I read, no more spin-o-rama's during the SO? I know the spinorama is gone but did not hear that teams can't practice it! Man that sucks! I absolutely hate the SO too doc... It cheapens the game IMO! goals: GirouxReadUmberger (yes, I said it here first)
murraycraven Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Flyers lose the first 3. Van... there could be a mass suicide watch if that happens again.
brelic Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Van... there could be a mass suicide watch if that happens again. But wait - it gets better... we win the next 4, and Gagne - I mean Umberger - scores the late PP winner.
Mad Dog Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 The Flyers have to take advantage of Crejci not being in the lineup. And I understand Lucic' surgically repaired wrist is not 100% healed. But with the defense we have, nothing is ever going to be easy.

AJgoal Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Simmonds is expected to play, which is good, Flyers will have their full lineup. Tough matchup right out of the gate. I expect we'll see a goal from the top line tonight, but Rask and the Broons have been tough on the Flyers. Even without Krejci, I don't think that changes tonight. 3-1 Bruins, Jake with the lone Flyers goal.

brelic Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Simmonds officially in the lineup tonight, according to NHL.com. Good news for the Flyers!
trevluk Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 with this defense the ghost of Cam Neeley might score... Cam Neely isn't dead but I have no doubt that if he laced 'em up tonight that he could beat this defense.
murraycraven Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Cam Neely isn't dead but I have no doubt that if he laced 'em up tonight that he could beat this defense. I know... it was more of a figure of speech
Vanflyer Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 But wait - it gets better... we win the next 4, and Gagne - I mean Umberger - hartnell scores the late PP winner. Fixed it for ya.
Vanflyer Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Van... there could be a mass suicide watch if that happens again. Part of my secret plan. I bought gates for all the bridges in Philly and am selling pedestrian tickets. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.
doom88 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 So the Bs can unload on Rinaldo behind the play (two different shifts), he jabs back, Krug head whips a la Carcillo, 2 for Rinaldo. Maybe he should cross check them back instead...
canoli Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Zac knows better they'll whistle everybody for that shot - and if he keeps it up he'll sit. Otherwise he looks good - couple nice plays in the 1st.
