BURLINGTON, Vt. – Five former University of Vermont men's hockey players begin the 2014-15 season on National Hockey League rosters as the NHL season begins tonight. Kevan Miller '11 (Boston Bruins), Torrey Mitchell '07 (Buffalo Sabres), Patrick Sharp '02 (Chicago Blackhawks), Viktor Stalberg '09 (Nashville Predators), and Martin St. Louis '97 (New York Rangers) are set to skate in the NHL this season.

Miller was the 15th UVM alum to play in the NHL when he debuted with the Bruins last season. SIx of them have their names on Lord Stanley's Cup.

I know there are Junior teams that far out pace them, but I think it's a pretty good showing for an NCAA program.

Go Cats!

Not only has your old drinking grounds produced quantity, there's quality there as well.

I'll never admit to saying this though.

I'm sure I'll miss some achievements for UVM players.

But, Timmy Thomas won the Vezina.  Marty St. Louis is Martin St. Louis with all his scoring records, and the winner of several Lady Byngs.  John LeClair was a fifty goal scorer for three consecutive seasons, a forty goal scorer for 5 years, and an NHL all-star for 6 or 7 years.

Aaron Miller, to my recollection, never got selected for awards.  However, he was a hell of a defenseman in the NHL.

Also, even though he chose to play in the AHL, our boy Zemgus had a hockey scholarship to UVM.
