King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Mason can't seem to track a puck or keep track of whatever side the puck ain't on at all. Is he losing his peripheral vision or something? This is going to be a long season. Vinny had a good game though! Ha ha. Trade him for some d men while he's hot!!This ain't good.
Bakanekimiwa Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 You can only say that like one goal Mason would like back. He was under siege most of the night with little, to no, help. The D men were off freelancing near that corner boards most of the time and the forwards were enjoying watching the show. edit: you're right about one thing, though.... it's looking like it's gonna be a long season. The expletive jars will be filled early and often.
murraycraven Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Ken Dryden would look like a sieve behind this defense...
pilldoc Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Ken Dryden would look like a sieve behind this defense...Dryden would say eff it! I'm not playing with this defense.
OccamsRazor Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 If they could only get Vinny to screen the opposing goaltender like he does Mase Flyers may already have a win.

Ha ha. Trade him for some d men while he's hot!!This ain't good. Mason looked just fine in the first game and given the team's D, I can't blame him much for the second. He didn't look good, but he also got hung out to dry.
radoran Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I hatehatehate playing goalies in back-to-back situations when they don't have to. Hate it. Yes, they "should" be able to handle it - but the point is that they don't need to. Flyers have 13 more B2Bs this season. That said, Mason was not the reason they lost last night.
King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 I feel like Mason should have had 2 or 3 of those goals and should have had some idea what was going on on the other 2 or 3 even if he couldn't have saved them. He was played last night specifically to get himself centered after the idiotic way game 1 ended, and instead he stunk and the team stunk in front of him. Maybe they're screening him far more than last year? I have no idea. He looks lost, they look lost. The season looks lost. They don't look as completely out of it as they did this time last year, but they don't look close either. At least last year this Time Mason looked like the real deal. I don't have much good feeling about him now. Mason looked just fine in the first game and given the team's D, I can't blame him much for the second. He didn't look good, but he also got hung out to dry.
King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 I am 99.95% positive Razor was going to start until the Bruins game ended the way it did. I'm willing to bet that this was intended for Mase to get his groove back after the way the Bruins game ended. Mase's groove is MIA completely now and the Defense is even worse. I hope Hexy fired Chief after the next game if they lose. I don't really, but it would be really funny.Yes, they "should" be able to handle it - but the point is that they don't need to.
King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 Here's the thing... there are plays he wasn't making... or even trying to make and that's what bugs me the most. Like maybe he couldn't have made the save on some of those goals (and really I say there are 2-3 he should have had no question, not just 1) but even if he couldn't have made the save, he didn't even try. Like he didn't even know the shooter was going to shoot or there at all. He really looks out of it to me.You can only say that like one goal Mason would like back. King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 Ken Dryden would look like a Sieve behind any defense after 1983. It's a different game. Ken Dryden would look like a sieve behind this defense...
radoran Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 He was under siege most of the night with little, to no, help. To be clear here, Mason faced a grand total of 25 shots and let in five of them. Add in 13 more blocked. Flyers peppered the Devils with 39 and had 14 more blocked.

If you think this is all on Mason, which your original post suggest if I take it literally, you might want to get a book on hockey.
pilldoc Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Not sure why we are surprised about this? We knew this defense was bad since training camp. What we were all hoping was that Berube would be able to coach this bunch so that they would be playing at their maximum potential. Obviously that is not what is happening. We can debate all we wanted who is the worst and that won't change a thing. Short of blowing up the blue line, nothing is gonna change. Sadly the Calvary is still 2-3 years away. So moving forward the question is how to minimize the damage.

pilldoc Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 because like the Ray Rice elevator tape we've now seen it in it's horrifying awfulness.call the shock of the eyewitness Excellent comparison......its really bad watching it unfold before our eyes...
radoran Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 You know, I think you're right. Mason's compete level definitely wasn't high enough. IMO, he shouldn't have even been in the game. B2B's are the second reason to have a backup goaltender - after "injury." Mason played lights out against Boston and took a tough loss. Why throw him back out there the next night? Oh, right. Home opener. Gotta make it look good for the fans. How's that working out for them?

doom88 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Agreed as well rad. No need to wear down a goalie with both ends of a B2B.
FlyersFan4Life Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I do not want to be a Debbie downer even though its 2 games in and with the up coming schedule this team can be easily 0-9
notfondajane Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Come on Flyers I like to see you guys make this division interesting GO PENGUINS
briere48 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 i dont blame mason at all for this loss, the problem is this team doesnt have good d, plus we dont have a good backup either, it's not helping that the team is putting pressure on mason.
King Knut Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 You mean the post whose title starts "The Defense looked bad" ?That post blamed it all on Mason? We all know the D looked like shite with Holes. I was noticing something in addition to that. Two thoughts. same head. Same time. Amazing. taking things a a wee bit literal these days are we? If you think this is all on Mason, which your original post suggest if I take it literally, you might want to get a book on hockey.
