Jam1986 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Watching score two goals early and then I get real nervous. Man we can't get the puck out of are own zone WOW! This is not good now have to play Ana,Dal,Chic,Pens back to back then Det!!!!!!!!! Hoping for 6pts this might be the season even though it is young. No hair to pull out and no nails to bite SUCKS!
Jam1986 Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Just thinking how many years ago was that? The team looks like can get the golden ring then boom down for the count. Even so call d/prospects we still need the one or d/men that will lead us and we don't have that if so it is a few years away. How do we get there? Patience who has that? Do we trade but who wants our guys? Lost?
Howie58 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I hope not. Tonight's game was painful. But let's not jump off the bridge yet.Best,Howie
radoran Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 We are seeingthe results of a change in the league where big money teams can't simply buy themselves out of problems any more. The Flyers, having tried to stretch every loophole possible up to the moment before they forced those loopholes to be closed, are reaping the results of some massively bad decisions. Including arguably the worst contract blunder in the history of the game. And they left that guy in charge for a few more seasons. They aren't i n the Russ Farwell years. They're in the Paul Holmgren years.
sarsippius Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 It really is that simple when you break it down. Bad contracts to old players kill teams. Giving up on 21 year old kids or failing to develop them properly at all kills teams. Badabing
Howie58 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I have to agree RE: VLC. He take long strides that are slower than peers. Tonight's game made me think that we will only win low scoring affairs where we rely on grinding and goaltending. Our fourth line has speed but can it put a shot on goal?Best,Howie

The Quigster Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Nobody is concerned about losing their job, just collect the money. This group is soft, wants minimal physical contact, and competes for 20 to40 minutes a game. The Flyer's goalies are not elite, but decent, just can't handle anybody with a a natural shot. How much worse would it be if some Phantoms were inserted? It seems the only dominating line is the fourth(physically committed),give you all they got,all the time. The solution seems to be out there for everybody to see!
jackhole Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Rad, to which 'worst contract blunder in the history of the game' were you referring?
doom88 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Rad, to which 'worst contract blunder in the history of the game' were you referring? DiPietro?

The solution seems to be out there for everybody to see!it pretty much sums it up, there's no accountability with these overpaid players, they should be signing players to one year deals to get them to play hard and not for the money, hate to say this but this organization is not going to change until snider is not the owner anymore.
radoran Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Rad, to which 'worst contract blunder in the history of the game' were you referring? Bryzgalov, of course.Although, good point, there are many.DiPietro?Remember when the Isles blew up a team two years removed from the Final in order to sign DiPietro?Good times.
DaGreatGazoo Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 No. This team has way more talent than those teams had. I won't rehash what @radoran said earlier-but he's correct
flyercanuck Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 @radoran But they rebounded quickly, right?
briere48 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 we are just not a good team, we dont have faster d-men or forwards until that happens, this team is going to be bad for years. coaching is terrible as well.

The players aren't executing, and that's problem number one. They might not like a firmer coach than the cake baker or camp creampuff with a side of jam.
canoli Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I try never to argue with Rad when he's right - occasionally i do anyway - but it's painfully obvious the Flyers are short on talent on the blue line and on the top line. Simmonds is expanding his game all the time and it's great to see but he can't skate 40 minutes a night. Last night's 3rd highlighted what the Flyers need most I guess - a take-charge D-man. When Coburn comes back - a 3rd period like last night - he would've only added to the misery not corrected it. At his best he plays to the level of the team - he would not have "rescued" the Flyers from themselves. I kept hoping Giroux would take over, make a big play, whatever but he never got the chance: nobody could chip the puck out of the zone. It was silly how many weak plays there were in the D zone last night (in the 3rd). Berube should've used his TO after they made it 3-2 or even after 3-1. By then the Flyers were getting outshot 11-1 (something like that). [edit: just read Meltzer's recap - apparently Berube did use his TO at 8:27 - shortly after Markov made it 3-1.] The good news is we probably have our future #1 D-man in the pipeline but this year will test Hextall's patience / philosophy. Knowing our luck and the Flyers' history Hextall will make a few conservative moves that help the team...and end up keeping us just out of reach of the top picks.
ruxpin Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Bryzgalov, of course.Although, good point, there are many. See, I think VLC is worse. Bryzgalov was terrible, but they were able to get out from under it. So what do they do? They turn around the same week and sign Vinny to this idiotic contract! Yeah, Bryz's contract was bigger and longer, but the VLC thing was more galling to me because they had just gotten out from under the Bryz contract and learned absolutely nothing and went and did the same damn thing all over again. This time without the possibility of rescue of a bailout. If Bryz was insanity, the Vinny thing was insanity squared (again, not the amount. the doing the same damn thing that was such a disaster not only a second time but immediately!). I cannot tell you how glad I am that Holmgren is no longer GM. Now if we can get he and Bob Clarke as far away from the organization as possible maybe we can get on with the business of actually building a team.

DaGreatGazoo Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 More like we don't have the players needed to execute the system This comment got me thinking. We always here you can't fire the players, you fire the coach. Right? So the Flyers did that last season--fired the coach. Now, what does it say about them if they hired a coach that wanted to play a system that didn't match their talent pool. I'm not smart enough to know if this is actually the case or not, but it's an interesting point. They were cap strapped last year as well. It wasn't like they could magically improve this team overnight. Heck, the one thing we keep hearing is that the pipeline is full of Dmen, NOT forwards. We know the D is lousy, but what if they talent upfront can't play the system. Again, I'm not saying they can't...just saying what if they don't enough talent/the right talent to play Berube's style. Could that be why they can't play 60 mins consistently--going back to last year?
doom88 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 More like we don't have the players needed to execute the systemNot a bad thought.I wonder though, is back checking and professional passing asking too much of the players? That would go a long way towards improving the team performance...

Could that be why they can't play 60 mins consistently--going back to last year? Well one thing that concerns me most is one of their excuses to get rid of Downie was those two loved to dump the puck in all the time and Berube wanted to skate the puck into the O zone..............well i haven't seen that style change.....they still dump it in and they still can't get to the puck.....so they've changed personnel but still ain't skating it in....so to me it doesn't look like they have changed much just got rid of Hartnell and Downie and now same ol schitt with a couple new faces. So that more than anything will get Berube fired. It why i didn't want him in the first place i want a complete philosophy change and they didn't do that just changed faces and good ol boys...............hence the same crap going on.....the system SUCKS!!!!!!!
OccamsRazor Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Now, what does it say about them if they hired a coach that wanted to play a system that didn't match their talent pool. It is why i lobbied for a change in style of system....the guy i wanted was Dave Tippett....but i don't think they'll get to pry him form the Yotes so steal a guy who has studied under him for years and learned how to do things that way......................Jim Playfair i'd like to give him shot to coach this rag tag bunch i'm sure he has learned first hand how Tippett gets so much out of so little.................new blood and a way of doing things is what this club needs bad.
DaGreatGazoo Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 they still dump it in and they still can't get to the puck.....so they've changed personnel but still ain't skating it in This! Times a million!!!!
OccamsRazor Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 This! Times a million!!!! You know if you watch last game that is what the Canadiens did they dumped it in the Flyers zone because they knew the Flyers Dmen sucked were slow and couldn't even get to the puck first therefore keeping the Flyers on their heels chasing the puck around in their own zone. On their own McDud and Schultz suck bad.....but together i challenge you to find a worse defensive pair in the whole NHL hell or even the AHL for that matter the fact that Berube keeps these two bums together makes me question his coaching skills BIG time and he just needs to go to when they eventually clean house. He isn't the only reason they lose but Berube hasn't shown me the ability to adapt and change things up during a game they just keep bleeding out.
