Vinny Lecavalier walked painfully out of the arena with a boot on his left foot. The 34-year-old center was hit by a shot taken by teammate Mark Streit, but he remained in the game and even took the Flyers’ first shootout attempt.

I was actually quite surprised he was able to stay in the game. That looked like it could have caused damage. Hopefully he's out til after the trade deadline.

3 pts in 3 games, 50% faceoff, tough enough to stay in the game. F that guy, he clearly sucks.

Giroux is playing way worse at the dot, and is a -5 to VLC's -1. Same points, albeit 4 more SOG.

Just an early season comparison. At least give credit to VLC when due.

I'm looking at a team trying to build a contender in a few years. Call me crazy, but that's what I'd be doing, not this bs of trying to win every year. VLC does me zero good. I'm not saying he's useless. I'm saying he's not in my plans.

I'm arguing against the VLC sucks. He doesn't.

In a different thread, I covered the square peg round hole thing.

He doesn't suck. Rux is busting balls. :-). (I think)

His contract sucks. The signing sucked. His inability to stay healthy sucks.

He was solid for the flyers the 1st 15-20 games last season. Then the injuries started. Almost a mirror image of this season-he just got hurt a lot sooner.

I don't think anyone here would disagree with you. In fact, Hextall agrees with you too.

It's just that no one wants him, and VLC controls where he goes.

Give it a few months, and if he keeps playing this way, just maybe there will be a trade partner that emerges.

I noticed too that Giroux leads the team - in a bad way - with a -5 tied with Schenn. As bad as our defense has been, that top line gets hemmed in their own zone for long stretches. I noticed that from the first game.

So, I'm back to wondering why this team is so bad defensively - is it personnel? Or is it coaching/system? Or both?

@brelic

Probably, the top line is apathetic about their own zone. They don't want to work for possession, and that puts the defense and goalie in a terrible position. The defense isn't great, but I've said for years that the forwards are a major part of the problem. The forwards don't really receive neutral zone passes well either, which leads to turnovers.

@all

VLC doesn't suck. His contract, terms, and the Homercoaster...sure. But, the player is getting it done, and is keeping it classy in (of all forsaken places) the Philly media. Just saying, the player and management are two very different things.

Ah, good. See at first it was a little unclear - thank you for clarifying your position. :)

This.   The square peg round hole thing.

The problem with VLC is that he is the epitome of everything I hated about Holmgren and a philosophy (if you can call it that) that handicapped this team in a horrible way and continues to and will continue to long after he (Holmgren) is gone.

The day this signing was announced I was on here screaming bloody murder (give me points or a cookie or something for consistency), so it is not about performance since or his ability to continue to play (and do nothing) after he's been injured.  It's that I wish to God he was never signed and wasn't on this team.

He doesn't belong.  There was no logical place for him when he was signed other than our regurgitated feces of a dumb ass general manager saw something shiney and had to have it.  Nevermind we had twelve centers at the time (hyperbole) and some prospects we'd really like to work into the lineup before they're 35 themselves.  And he still doesn't fit.  He's a completely unnecessary player on this team.  He could be elsewhere doing exactly the same thing and actually be a good idea.  But here he is just completely and aggravatingly in the way.

So yes, VLC SUCKS.  His signing sucks.  His presence sucks.  The fact we can't move him for someone that fits better on the team sucks.  His contract sucks--the amount AND the duration. And the GM that signed him sucks.

So he has a couple points in three games to start the season and played a period or so with an injury.  Terrific.  All hail the waste of space (cap, roster, position, money, uniform, etc)!!!  VLC doesn't suck.  Sign him up for the All-Star and World Cup teams.  It's not VLC, it's just his existence  and the glaring problems of this organization of which he is emblematic.

I know I sound dangerously close to like phlfly does with Giroux (minus the Yoda impression), but so be it.

I always liked you as a poster, but I got to tell you Canoli, you have come back this season as the funniest damned poster on this board.  I crack up nearly every time you post or say something in the shout box.  No pressure or anything, but it's awesome; keep it up!

I think it is funny that people seem to think VLC is fine when healthy... He is NEVER healthy and you can count on him being in and out off the lineup just like you can count on Schenn missing nearly every defensive assignment or Grossman "blocking shots"...

Yeah.  It's three flipping games (all losses, btw).  He has a goal and two assists.  I mean, yeah, call Yonge Street and have them get the plaque ready.

Yes, I know it's better than most of the team and I know Vinny is not the reason we're losing these games (it's clearly Rinaldo's fault).  But...yeah, what I said in the previous post.

Agreed Rux...

I will say that aside from VLC I am about ready to call B Schenn a POS too...

You know what?  I don't like VLC because of his cap hit, his contract, etc. etc.  But he has been producing when healthy (it was a Wednesday.  It was probably in autumn because I remember it was raining and the leaves were coming off the trees).

But Schenn is lousy regardless of contract.  Schenn is lousy because he just simply doesn't play well consistently.  He has stretches (it was February  I remember because it was snowing) but way too far in between.  I know we complained about only 4 periods on the top line and "give him more of a chance."  I said the same thing.  But the reality is he showed absolutely nothing on any shift he was out there on the top line. It was actually quite pathetic.  He and his brother could be traded tomorrow and I'd be fine.  Sure, they'd both score two goals each every time they played the flyers after that--like every other ex-Flyer--but otherwise I'd be fine.

Lecavalier must have skipped taking his Geritol. Oh, and a real revelation here, Schenn is NOT a 1st line NHL center. I doubt seriously that he ever will be. At least his brother Luke doesn't float around out there, although he doesn't do anything to improve the team, either.

He's been playing on Giroux's wing. Or was, for a couple of periods here or there.

Then he was on the wing for VLC.

He was somewhat projected as a second line scoring center - a role in which they have basically never played him.

That is why i suggested in another thread trade him and his brother while both their values are still kind of high get whatever you can for them i'm tired of them both already.
