Samifan Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 In what I am sure will be a huge confidence boost to the team, they couldn't even score on Hextall's son. Look for the Flyers to invite a Pee Wee goalie to their next practice. If that fails maybe they can just start selling "virtual experiences" and let fans with zero hockey experience try tending goal for the SO portion of practice QuotableRon Hextall's son Jeff, a 19-year-old goaltender who plays for the Flyers' USPHL junior team, took shots in yesterday's practice. He remained in net when the Flyers practiced the shootout, prompting Craig Berube to note:"They weren't scoring on him, either."No Flyer scored in four attempts on Saturday against Montreal. Nine NHL teams have more shootout wins on the road than the Flyers (27-52) do all-time.Read more at http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/20141014_B__Schenn_experiment_over_for_now.html#Gi6Kjsg3UwlIjoWY.99

That is just so sad / disgusting on so many levels. Every single shooter who did not not score should be ashamed of themselves and donate part of their salary to Hexy's son. Totally pathetic and many, many other choice words come to mind that can't be typed here. You reap what you sow..... Absolutely embarrrssing...........
PhilsFanDrew Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 The Flyers approach during the shootouts is so flawed. Watch the teams that beat them. They just casually skate in make a simple move and shoot. Flyers try to get way too fancy and deke in too close. Most of the time not even getting off a quality shot. The Flyers literally approach a shootout like they are playing a shootout on a video game.
Howie58 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I've said it before but wonder if we are seeing something with skill level. Simmonds and Giroux may company may not be skills competition types. Howie
doom88 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Giroux has skills, when he tries. But, he acted like a little girl again when he slashed his stick against Mason's net out of frustration. I think he really lacks mental toughness.

flyercanuck Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I'm going to guess the Flyers took it easy on a teenaged less than AHL calibre kid who also happens to be the bosses son. Seriouisly, what good is lighting him up? As for real NHL shootouts...they, and the Flyers suck.
brelic Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Apparently practice didn't pay off. Time for Berube to dust off the shooter tutor.

Seriouisly, what good is lighting him up?As for real NHL shootouts...they, and the Flyers suck.Well, the Habs went easy on that girl goalie, until she kept stopping their shots. Then they took it seriously. The Flyers didn't take it seriously, and I'm not even sure they went easy. They have no shootout moves - and for that matter no in game breakaway moves either.
Vanflyer Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Ok..so you are telling me a 19 yr old non-NHL kid ...was stopping "supposed NHL players" on shootout attempts. I just hang my head and shake. Why in god green earth would you need to "practice" shoot-outs? The last I remember, before every practice, every game, every players does 1-on-1 drills to the goalie as part of warm-ups. I guess the only distinction would be skating from center ice instead of the blue. But wtf?? Does anyone remember LeClaire? At the end of every pre-game warm-up, he was always the last to leave the ice. What did he do? He skated 10 from the net with about 15 pucks and shot them into the back-up goalie. Same with Tim Kerr.
The Quigster Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 The Flyer's have one natural goal scorer,Giroux, the last one was Gagne. Homer has completely stripped the team of gifted shooters.

I would say VLC is a natural goal scorer. Caveat is in his prime. At the NHL level, you are correct. Couturier was pretty prolific in Juniors, but that does not translate to NHL (see b. schenn).
