An offer to Francis Bouillon? Really?

Wow, reading this added to my disgust for the Flyers management.  The Flyers reportedly offered a two-way contract to the 39 year old, former Montreal Canadiens d-man Francis Bouillon last week. Fortunately Bouillon turned the deal down and signed with a team in Switzerland.  Apparently Bouillon was to be adding depth in the organization and didn't want to start in the AHL

-- ok another real slap in the face that this team won't use it's youth for NHL call-ups.

Well, what does that say about the older youth? They suck. Badly.

The rest, why rush?

I say it says they will not be given any development time in the NHL which holds a huge precedence for future NCAA free agents to not sign with the Flyers!

The only reason Bouillon even took the Flyers call is because he thought Homer was still the GM and at age 39 he could have gotten a 5 year deal from Homer.

I think that's a bit of a reach. Especially if Ghost ends up benefitting from this approach, say compared to a Matt Gilroy.

I actually think they do. But worse than Bouillon? I don't know, I have no faith in any of them but I still think you give one of them a shot before calling Geriatrics Unlimited.

I don't get the Olli love frankly...

Honestly, I really haven't seen anything from any of them that says they are NHL players and not just lifetime minor leaguers.

I know two years ago at the end of the season Ollie looked okay while the team worked hard to avoid a great draft pick. But I wasn't real impressed.

Who ya calling Frankly?

Lol...

Ollie and the others listed, at best, are fringe NHL players IMO. If this is the group that people want to hang ther "Hexy will never play the kids" argument on than I have trouble taking them seriously.

The Flyers and Wild were in the running for Christian Folin.  He chose a roster spot with the Wild vs the Phantoms.  Schultz chose a roster spot with the Oilers vs the Phantoms.

Read also chose a NHL roster spot when he chose the Flyers.

Besides being old dude is just 5-9.....really? Like they need a shrimp on the blueline!?

Isn't that what a 6th/7th defenseman is, really?

I don't see anyone saying that Manning, Lauridsen, and to a lesser extent, Alt, are anything more than fringe NHLers who could play the fringe NHLer job as well as other fringe NHLers.

I'm saying Manning would have been just as meh a choice as Hal Gill. Or Lilja. Or Gervais. Or Walker. Or Foster.

This is what a Habs writer had to say about Bouillon (it's from the link in the OP):

Bouillon saw massive spikes in his play whenever he was paired with P.K. Subban, which is about the most unsurprising thing I've written on this site in the last week. That's not to say that Bouillon didn't put in a yeoman's effort, everyone knows that he's one of the hardest working players in the league, but he's clearly below replacement level at this point in his career. ...  He ended up playing over 30% of his shifts with Subban, and even that wasn't enough to pretty up his numbers.

So, what exactly did the Flyers envision as his role with this organization?

Might have been a panic offer when Coburn went down? This just makes no sense on so many levels.

It's no secret the Flyers organization loves to bring in players who they saw do something awesome years ago on another franchise. I was really hoping Holmgren and then Hextall, and then (fill in the blank...Knuble?) would get away from this. Guess not.

The fact that they actually made this offer kinda makes me shake my head. I thought Hextall would be different, but that's a very Holmgren thing to do.

How about defense on the Phantoms for a role with his two way contract that started in Allentown?

What?

He didn't want to play on the A. He was offered a two way contract that the report says would have started in Allentown...

Well... If you are looking for depth that makes sense.

But making unfounded conclusions about how he would have been immediately on the Flyers roster is much more sexy...

Once they waive all things and call up everything SOMEONE needs to play d in Allentown...

That's not the conclusion I made at all.

Right. I got that part. It still seems like a strange maneuver.

Do you know *any* player who is willing to play in the AHL at 39 years old after a 15 year NHL career?

Chris Chelios?

Look, I think it is safe to say that have one of the more jaundiced views of the Flyers organization and I'm willing to give Hextall some rope, boards, nails and see if he hangs himself.

But we're a long way from that at this point.

Hexy offered this guy a two way contract that started in Allentown. I'm not surprised he rejected it for exactly the reasons you describe in the quoted post.

To then extrapolate that to "they wanted Boullion on the big club" is a bit of a jump from where I sit.

If you're Hextall why not offer that contract? What do you have to lose?

Maybe Boullion didn't want to go to a remote, small place like Allentown?

Ambrì and Piotta are two very small villages in the municipality of Quinto, located in the northern part of the valley Leventina canton Ticino, with a combined population of 500 people. Ambrì-Piotta has more than 40 fan clubs all over Europe. For major events, like the derby against southern rivals HC Lugano, the fans compose a choreography. When Ambrì wins a game, fans rejoice to the valley anthem La Montanara.

You know who also played for that Swiss club? Johnsson and Lilja. True story :)
