jgrossmanvideo Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Just to play catch-up, why did Holmgren trade Mike Richards and Jeff Carter? It turned out to be a bad move (to put it politely).
Vanflyer Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Are we really going to go down this road again?? Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and B. Schenn all say hello. Also an addition by subtraction thing (contract wise). Nobody had a crystal ball to know that Carter (high and wide) would mature into the player he has become. Conversely, nobody had a crystal ball and would know that Richards body would not hold up well to the rigors of the NHL. Its all water under the bridge.
FD19372 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Are you serious? This was probably the best of Homer's trades. Out of the three Flyers on the Kings, Justin Williams is the guy this team could use the most. This trade was a move to rid ourselves of yet another RIDICULOUSLY BAD contract in Carter. Richards and Carter would not have done anything for this team, and without Simmonds how pathetic would this team be? Simmonds is better than either of them. Not to mention we got younger from this trade. This team was seriously hurt by miscalculating our defense(and Pronger's injury), and this trade had and has nothing to do with the Flyers' struggles.
Philly29 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 If this topic were to be taken seriously instead of the Carter/Richards trade which in my book was the best move/moves Holmgren made. I think the worst trade especially looking at the defense now would be the trading of our 1st rounder for Eminger instead of drafting Carlson...... I still cringe badly when I think about that move...........
