Flyers hold team meeting after losing to Red Wings

My guess it was to discuss who was going to ride on the floats in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Team Captain Giroux had difficult decisions to make since there are so many floaters currently on the Flyers.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

This could get really ugly fast. If the rags bury the Flyers in the upcoming series I would expect something to change.

This team simply can't play 5 on 5 hockey. It is becoming a joke to watch. G scoring his first even strength goal of the season should tell us all we need to know. Think about that - his first goal at even strength of the entire season so far.

There are so many things wrong with this team it is getting difficult to maintain faith that this team is headed in the right direction.

I expect both Rangers games to be losses. There's just something about that matchup that does not work for the Flyers. It's a little like the Wings last night.

But I still believe there's a great foundation of forwards on this team. I think if you change 3 of the top 12 (VLC, Umberger, Read) for more complementary players over the next few years, you'll see a marked improvement on top of the natural evolution of the players we already have.

The blueline is a clusterfu*k that will sort itself out over the next two seasons with expiring contracts. I sincerely hope that Hextall can leverage MacDonald into something - anything - of value just to get rid of the commitment and player. I would trade MacDonald and Read to the Oilers for Perron and a 2nd rounder.

The blue line Brel is understandable and we all knew it would be terrible. The. Simple fact here is that Berube needs to bench VLC AND UMBERGER. They are nothing more than two heaps of **** that are not even playing hard. I think Berube sent a message to them bc they had limited ice last night.

Buy them both out and move on bc I am tired of it. They are both cancerous to this teams development

Haha, here's a sickening stat for you - I saw a post somewhere that Vinny is makig $12.7M this year. $6M from the Flyers in salary, $2M signing bonus, and $4.7M from the Lightning buy out.

And he's a 4th liner.

Ugh.... He should be thankful today right! He is a total stiff. I seriously wish Rinaldo would run him and RJ in practice.

All these players-only meetings are nice and important (I really mean that - not being sarcastic), but do they really mean much at this point?  And I actually think the team - meaning PLAYERS - are actually trying.  There is just not enough talent and their coach is not astute enough to help players succeed.  That's the reality and no players-only meetings can change that.

You really needed to ruin our Thanksgiving like that, Bre?  :confused[1]:

I'll be honest - I hope it does get ugly. I hope that guys like Mason, Giroux and Voracek take a leadership role and start holding other guys accountable for their poor play.

I hope Hextall sees that he has a coach that has poor bench management skills and is playing guys who don't deserve to play more than guys who deserve to play. I also hope Hextall sees that for whatever reason, our special teams play has been atrocious and has our 5 on 5 play.

I also hope Hextall has had enough of the floaters that currently reside on this team and he waives them, buys them out or trades them, even if it's for pennies on the dollar.

Gut feeling says Hextall won't do anything until mid season and are the Flyers are out of contention. By then, I think he'll probably start with some pretty heavy changes (new coaching staff and a blockbuster trade to shake things up)

Seeing some team leadership emerging can only be a good thing. And I hope it creates a divide between those who work and those that float. Or, actually motivates guys to give 100% of whatever they have.

I honestly don't see that much floating, to be perfectly candid. Sure, certain players take some shifts off here and there. But that has always been part of the game (as sad as it is) and nothing will really change that, unfortunately. Even under such disciplinarians as Hitch, Daryl Sutter, Terry Murray, Quineville, and multiple others, players will still do that. And that’s the least of the Flyers’ problem.  The problem is this team is simply not good enough.  Players like Read and Raffle maxed out on their ceiling.  VLC is an aging, broken, shell-of-himself player who is actually doing better this year than I thought.  Umburger has never been anything special and now he is just a shot player.  B Schenn and Couturier are inconsistent, but that's just part of the growth process.

They are a true one-line team with an AHL-caliber defense, shaky goaltending, and a coach who really had no business having been promoted to an NHL head coach in the first place. They are exactly where many Flyers fans foresaw them at this point in the season. Why people seem surprised is actually the only thing that I myself find surprising.

Have to agree. Great assessment. And agree, really no surprise here.
