brelic
Thought it was an interesting read, given the disarray surrounding the Flyers right now: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Lecavalier-is-Movable--Rumor-Flyers-turned-down-Yakupov-Deal/1/64501 According to my sources, this past summer Lecavalier turned down a possible trade to a Canadian team in the east, and the Flyers and Predators were closing in on deal when the Preds opted for Jokinen instead. All this was based off a season last year that saw Vinny's numbers drop, but still saw him score over 20 goals in less than 70 games. Not awesome, but a twenty goal scoring center still has value in the NHL. Vinny has made it widely known he came to Philly because he was sold on his role with the team by Holmgren and Laviolette. Peter was gone quickly, but now is coaching the Predators and remains a huge fan of all that Lecavalier brings to a team on the ice and in the room. The bigger issue is the fact that several Flyers players are currently moving backwards in their development under Berube. Players who progressed last year have hit walls and even regressed. The standard the team generally holds it's players to has decreased. Lecavalier isn't what he once was, but brings way more to the table than several players who Berube continues to put his faith in. *Umberger hasn't scored a point in 16 games. *Coburn is trying to do too much and playing way outside his comfort zone. (Two huge mistakes last night on the same play cost the team a point in San Jose.) *Simmonds has lost his drive to the net. * McDonald, who played himself into an extension last year by moving the puck with confidence and blocking shots, has lost his confidence and looked even shakier after being a healthy scratch. *Last year Steve Mason played through his slumps, while this year he has often been replaced by Ray Emery after a loss...even a loss that wasn't his fault. When Mason has played well the team has struggled to produce for him. Yakupov offer? A source has informed me the Flyers and Oilers continue to talk, but as of last week the Flyers were not interested in a Nail Yakupov trade offer that was presented to them...that could change however... Couple things - it annoys me too that Mason doesn't get to keep playing games. I mean, he's certainly not being overplayed. And he's playing well even in losses. Just let him get the games in. Too much goalie yo-yo-ing reminiscent of Laviolette. And I want no part of Yakupov
murraycraven
I just read that too Brel. As with anything realted to Ek I take it as the opposite. I want NO parts of Yakupov - none.
FD19372
I would take Yakupov for Vinny and then immediately trade him for a dman.

murraycraven
I would take Yakupov for Vinny and then immediately trade him for a dman. not really sure what Yak would bring in the way of a defenseman. The Oilers have been trying to acquire a defenseman and nothing has come of it... We have enough below average to average dmen making too much money. We need a top pairing guy and Yak will not get you that alone.
AJgoal
Eklund lost me when he said, "According to my sources.."

I really dont see that getting the deal done either. Maybe get a 4-6 type player but we have like 6 of those already.
radoran
The Flyers have no interest in Yakupov. What number do you think he'll wear for the Flyers?

vonginous
Yakupov I think has a 1 mil salary and is a rfa after next season. I would trade any shitty contact we have for him. It would be better for the cap who ever you trade for him. If it's a way to get rid of Vinny, do it.
murraycraven
If it's a way to get rid of Vinny, do it. So you think that the Oilers are going to take VLC and give us Yak? Where do I sign? not happening...
radoran
So you think that the Oilers are going to take VLC and give us Yak? Where do I sign? not happening... Oh, no, of course not. They'd never go for that. But throw in Bumburglar and Coburn and you're onto something! Or, you know, something...

vonginous
I know that won't happen. They don't want him anymore. My point is the contract is better. Do Vinny and read or Mcdonald and Coburn or umberger and coburn. Just get rid of shitty contracts. Yakupov then can be traded for picks in 2015. That won't be near as hard a getting rid of one of our bad contracts

That won't be near as hard a getting rid of one of our bad contracts I am all for it man... the problem is going to be finding a dance partner. Not sure who would want to take on any of these contracts... Coburn can be traded as his contract is not bad. McDud is being pais well above his actual pay grade and will be toug to move. McDud and VLC are all but immovable at this point. Read - I am not willing to give up on and his contract is not bad.

mojo1917
Read is a mid roster player, good and everything but hardly irreplaceable. so if he is required to be part of a package that rids us of Corpsberger or LeCadaver ®-pilldoc then asta la taco Matty. I don't consider Read as part of the core group with potential , he is a finished product and a nice player. There are also players with his ability to be found ,without much effort , who would be available to fill his spot. see PEB who so far I think has out Readed Read this year. FD19372
The Flyers just named Ben Dover their new Assistant GM!!! Give the Oilers Umby, Lecavalier and a 2nd for Yakupov, then trade him.
jammer2
The thing that is troubling about Yak....he's not an elite skater. Very average skater. Why somebody goes that high and not a great skater is beyond me. I think the scouts failed to see how his jr game would evolve into the NHL. jammer2
@mojo1917 Yeah, except Cotter was not a top 3 pick. Those guys are supposed to be legit skaters. If not, they have no business being drafted that high. He's not a brutal skater, but no elite break away speed. Scouts should have been able to factor this in. He should not have gone so high. Wasn't Couturier the consensus #1 before he was sidelined for so much time? The more that time passes, the more it's becoming obvious that his skating deficiency is a major flaw in his game and will limit his upside.
