Good lord, who is the genius in the marketing department that thought of this, especially the timing?

Can it be a public lynching.... agree...timing is very bad.

I guess they need a reason to put people in the seats???? :unsure[1]:  :confused[1]:

On Facebook on a post about Hextall's "state of the team" interview (so this post is addressed TO Hextall--because he reads the facebook posts, I guess)

Hey, your great. Loved you in net. Berube on the other hand., is making too many changes. Leave lines alone so they can sync up. We have the depth, now we need to click.

This guy needs to put the syringe down.

We have depth....LOL ...I want what he is smoking...does this FB user even watch hockey????????

Seriously, though, I can never read Facebook posts for long because I suddenly remember that most of them probably operate motor vehicles. And that scares the hell out of me.

It's like a Toughfighter convention.

and most of them don't even watch hockey.  Got into a heated debate this past spring about LA Kings and Flyers with some idiot poster on FB.  I wrote like a very lengthy response and challenged the idiot I was dealing with to come on here to HF.net to continue the debate. Totally get your point though.

Man, the hate is strong on this board. He's getting the Lester Patrick award for his contributions to hockey in the US. I would say it's well deserved.

Holmgren, 59, a former Flyers player, coach, and general manager, has been involved in furthering the sport in various roles for USA Hockey. He has served on the U.S. men's national team advisory group since 2009, and was the assistant general manager of the 2006 U.S. Olympic men's team. In addition, he served as GM of the 2006 U.S. men's national team and was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

Well deserved for all other things hockey.  For the Flyers he is a major reason why this team is where it is.

Of all the factors that go into consideration for the Lester Patrick award, I would guess his tenure as the Flyers GM is pretty far down the list. If it's even on the list at all. Personally I'm proud to see "one of our own" get a prestigious award like that. But haters gonna hate, I guess.

It would be like your boss doing great research and break through scientific discovery and wins sometype of coveted award, yet his own department is in complete and utter disaray.  Not arguing he earned this award... just saying that is actions have also let to such and utter chaos for the Flyers.  It will be hard for some fans to be happy considering he has screwed this team in alot of different ways with bad personnel decisions and contracts.  People have a right ot be upset that for the good of hockey he did else where he did such a poor job with his own team.  That is my point.

That is an impressive resume. A lot of people forget some of the very nice positives from his playing career also. Most remember him as a goon and dismiss his hard nosed talent. In 79-80 (the year of "the streak") he had a career high 30 goals and 55 points. I'd venture to guess the steak would have never existed had Homer not been a Flyer. That same year, he became the first USA born player to score a hat trick in a finals game....first one "ever". The following year, he was invited to the all star game. Some very nice accomplishments.

Probably his biggest honour as a player was being named to the USA squad for the 1981 World Cup tournament. Sadly, he separated his shoulder and never appeared in that tourny, but just being named, not bad for someone who is remembered more as a pugilist than a respectable all round player, which is exactly what he was.

Throw in the International hockey accolades with his playing resume....um, yeah...he does deserve to be hounoured.

I wonder if EVERYONE that Homer gave a bad contract to will be speaking at the ceremony? If so, they will need to start it around noon so the Flyers can still play the game that night......
