Howie58
Greetings: After his last game I posted that we might be seeing an audition for next year's backup? My gut says Emery is gone via trade or contract expiration. Zepp would be non-threatening, inexpensive and based on what we've seen, pretty competent. Tonight's goals were power plays or a fluke. Stolarz gets time to mature. We whittle away at our cap bloat. I was surprised we resigned Emery this year based on his end-of-year performance. He hasn't inspired me this year. I don't worry about Zepp's motivation. Thoughts? Howie
Jam1986
Sure why not. The team still has to learn to play D!
hf101
@Howie58 I completely agree Howie. Zepp is pretty fast side to side. I was just reading on Meltzers twitter, rather cool that Max Oulette was his coach.

off_the_post
Personally I see Emery has little trade value so I expect we will see his contract expire. I'd like to see Zepp get a fair shot at the back up position based on what I have seen and his stats in the A. However I still think if there is a proven back available of the free agent market that is an upgrade then the Flyers look at that option. I certainly like the Zepp story and it would be cool if it continued. It has a Tim Thomas kind of feel.

King Knut
He'll have to outperform Rayzor substantially. It's not like Emery's salary is an issue for the team. Howie58
Greetings: Losing a game 1-0 to the Caps is no shame. Zepp got second star. His body of work grows.

OccamsRazor
Pretty good save here by Zepp WRONG! That was a HELL of a save! I think we are getting an early glimpse of the Flyer's backup goaltender next year.
fanaticV3.0
It's only 2 games, but yeah I wouldn't object to giving him a chance to split duties for as long as Mason is out, and even play him over Emery if he proves to be better when Mason does come back. My issue is I think that as soon as Mason is healthy, Zepp is back down, regardless of how he plays. The chances of a guy his age suddenly making it are slim. I think the chances of him even getting that opportunity are slimmer. Teams just don't think outside the box very often. Emery "is a veteran" and will always be given preferential treatment. They're really unlikely to even give Zepp much of a chance.

It's true Zepp will be sent down but next year is a different story. Granted, he may be important at the farm as a role model. But he seems to steady the team down in a good way. Howie I'm totally ok with giving him the shot. Like I said, I don't think enough outside the box thinking occurs in sports. But as far as it actually happening, I'll believe it when I see it. I'd love for it to happen. Not only would he be a cheaper option, it would be a nice story.

HowieI've argued Emery should've retired a couple years ago. His lack of mobility is obvious with only an occasional surprise. He's a guy other teams are hoping to see in net and not out of extreme praise for Mason.Zepp has looked pretty good overall from what little I've seen. Why not get his feet wet for a while? OccamsRazor
So when Mason comes back does Zepp stay? I would prefer it. I expect Zepp to be sent back for no other reason than he can be without waivers....Emery is a capable backup plus you have limited space and so as to not have to waive someone to keep 3 goalies i expect him to be sent back not because of anything he has done....just a strategic type of move to if they'd like try and trade Emery maybe for if nothing else a 17th round pick instead of exposing him for nothing on waivers. He may have some value he does have a Cup and Cup experience with teams will value. Sure there are many other options around the league but i'm hoping he has some trade value at the deadline. OccamsRazor
Inside the Flyers: Zepp a feel-good story in a lost season http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/20150118_Inside_the_Flyers__Zepp_a_feel-good_story_in_a_lost_season.html He should be brought back next year as the backup to Mason for no other reason that he'll be 500K-600K cheaper than Emery. And he is 3-1 so far this season...with this defense even more impressive....
