jammer2
This is a rather odd ending to an odd story. Mike Richards and the Kings have reached a settlement on the contract termination. The case was scheduled to go to an arbitrator next week....as the story says, both sides had a lot to lose in that scenario...either Richards would have lost his whole contract or the Kings would have been charged the full amount of the cap hit. Somebody help me out....how do the Kings get to weasel out of the full cap hit?? How is this legal?? The hilarious part, even with the reduced cap hit, the Kings will be paying for Richards with cap space until *2031*....YES, I did not type that wrong....FRIGGIN 2031!!! http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/mike-richards-and-la-kings-reach-settlement-on-terminated-contract--report-200935112.html

My guess is the 22M is spread out for the next 15-16 years to limit the damage to the Kings yearly cap space. I guess that is about 1.5M per year. Interesting read on Lombardi's take on this. "I certainly believe that Mike Richards must be held accountable for his actions — but when a player who at one time symbolized everything that was special about the sport can become caught in such a destructive spiral, then I believe the institution of sport must begin to examine its level of culpability."http://www.latimes.com/sports/kings/la-sp-sn-kings-settlement-mike-richards-termination-20151009-story.html
