I can say with certainty that I have never been this disinterested in the Flyers. The draft and the picks are all I have to carry me forward.

Plus there's you guys and this place.

Thank the lord for these small mercies.

if hextall can get rid of berube and find a way to get rid of grossman, vinny, the schenns, old macdonald bring up the kids, then i can watch this team again, no more deadweight on this team, other teams are winning with youth, it's time for the flyers to do it.

I'm convinced Hextall is going to be on a mission this summer. I expect a new head coach in place by the draft, at least two trades and clearing room to get Morin into the lineup. I think he secures the second line center spot and frees up a defense spot (Grossmann). As for the new head coach, gut feeling says it's going to be Todd McLellan once he gets fired in San Jose (because you know Doug Wilson is going to throw him under a bus just so Wilson can try to survive). He'll be a good guy for this group. It's going to be something else next year. Maybe I'm overly positive, but I'm holding out hope because this is something that can be easily fixed - there's a good base of guys in place and there's some fantastic prospects as well. This draft is going to be a huge moment in Hextall's tenure in terms of replenishing the pipeline and after watching Hextall go to work last off season, I'm absolutely giddy as to what he's going to do with the picks this year. Got a good feeling that everything will get addressed this summer.

Berube will be "reassigned" to another position in the organization Monday.

At least that's what my fortune cookie said...

I don't care where he goes as long as he is removed from the head coaching job...

Good Evening:

I agree that watching the team has been painful this season. Even the 2007-07 was more watchable...

I want to be optimistic.  But  suspect next year may not be much different unless we miraculously dump some of the overpriced folks.  Yeah, they might find a place for Berube.

When we played Chicago a few weeks ago it struck me that Giroux was the only one present in 2010.  Chicago had the core of the Cup with an infusion of good people. That game reminded me of how we've been mismanaged...Capwise, draftwise, and age-wise....This is a league increasingly dominated by 30 and under types.  Hexy may need a few seasons.

I predicted we would be under .500.  I am pleasantly surprised.  But I also suspect half or more of this squad will be gone in two years. So we may be in for some more rough patches en route to top-10 squad.

It could be worse.  We haven't made the playoffs in three of the last twenty years. My backyard Panthers have only done so three of the last twenty.

Peace,

Howie

@Howie58

It's good to be optimistic, but personally I think it's gonna get worse before it gets worse.

Podein:

Good to hear from you. The Board is an extended family of sorts.

I understand what you say and it would not surprise me if next year is another dud.

1)  Mason may regress toward a mean

2)  Go past our 1st line and offensive talent seems to dwindle

3)  A new coach will have a new approach that will take time

4)  New personnel may not gel immediately.

So...we could have another rough spell.  Perhaps management realizes we need to operate differently and acquire players who can compete.

Is he gone yet?

If I where Hexy, I would have had his pink slip on his desk the minute the final horn sounded.  Plus there would have been an armed security force to escort his butt off the premises.

I give it by Monday or Tuesday for Hexy to kick him to the curb......

It's always a pleasure to interact with knowledgeable fans of the game like your gentle self.

I think we are looking at 4 years before we are competitive. Contracts, players, attitude, culture - trainers! - it all needs changing.

That is a depressing thought.  But sadly it may be that long.

if it takes that long (of course management will have to think it will take this long), g will be 31 or 32 by the time they are competitive again. Jake I think will be 29. What do you do with g? Trade him now or wait It out?

if the time table is 4 years, I just don't see how it would be worth keeping anyone on this team now ( maybe jake and mason). Just gut and start fresh beginning with this draft.

If you're going to suck for 4 years, be the best at it.

It doesn't pay to tank going forward. The Flyers might as well stay competitive and dealing Giroux and Voracek would set the club back significantly. There is good talent in place in Philadelphia. Some complimentary pieces need to be added and a new coach who can put it together is a must.
