Thoughts on Kevin Dineen as the next Flyers Coach

I think there is a reason why it has been so quiet on the Flyers search for the next head coach, their main target is currently on a one year assistant coaching contract with the Blackhawks.  Kinda convenient I'd say.  Hextall needs to wait until the Blackhawks season is over and then there won't need to be any draft picks given up to speak to Dineen.   Could this all have been in play last summer?   I wouldn't even be surprised if Timonen hasn't played a part in some casual conversation.

Dineen deserves a second head coaching gig and I think the Flyers will be that team.

The best coach in the league is (possibly) available.  Lets not talk to him so that we can go after a guy who has less than .500 record in his only other NHL head coaching gig.  Should have kept Berube.

Brilliant!

The chances of getting Babcock are slim

I doubt that is the case.  It's probably more to the tune of Babcock doesn't feel the need to talk to the Flyers.

Babcock is not going to reach out to the Flyers. He doesn't need to. He has offers on the table already. Why wouldn't he want to hear what the Flyers have to offer?

Because they throw money at everything?

Um...yeah...why not listen to *the* richest team in the league....you know, the team that is most capable of pushing your offer to new heights...stupid to not involve Philly in this, whether he plans to sign here or not.

I'm sure Toronto and NYR would have something to say about richest.

I've often wondered about that...I know the NYR are part of the huge conglomarate Johnson and Johnson....right?  The Leafs are owned (majority) by the Ontario Teachers Fund....who are worth billions through shrewd investments.

Are they really richer than Comcast though.....I'm not to sure about that...anyone know for sure?

Not sure of the date of this but I googled for 2015.  I think the operating income for the Flyers surely isn't as great as I think it once was.

Well it's been said that Babcock wants more control over his roster...

Do you really think Hextall will allow that?

Doubtful

I can't see Holland giving up control of that either....that is really stepping on the GM's toes....I'm sure the Sabres will give him all the control he wants, short of outright making him a GM/Coach dual position guy.

Wish I knew a Damn thing about his idea of a system and where D men should position themselves, etc.

Looking at that pic, even Dineen can't believe it! He would be a good choice, although he's an ex-Flyer. All I can say is Hextall better hurry up before Snider appoints himself head coach.

Dineen can be a solid coach as long as he does not try and run every minute task. I like his defensive skills but it will make much more sense if he keeps Mullen on the PP/offensive brains.

The teachers sold the Leafs a few years ago to Rogers and Bell.
