Timo Meier

Recommended Posts

Pick him!    If u want a guy who has puck skills, hockey sense and solid skating PLUS size and is good defensively pick Meier and you will all be happy.

At #7, regardless of who else might still be available? Over Crouse? Or Provorov, or Marner (unlikely) or Hanifin (unlikely)?

Timo is also older as well so that has to be considered in the equation...plus he is a RW...so i'd prefer Crouse or Barzal or a Dman like Provorov, Werenski or even Hanifin which is highly unlikely he'll fall to #7.

Plus Flyers are actually thin at center only ones in he system are Laughton and Cousins...so i'd rather have a center who if need be can be kicked out to LW instead of drafting another RW.

I wasn't warm on Crouse, but I liked what I saw from him last night when he and the other top 6 were on with Don Cherry. Just his demeanour. He clearly loves the game and the moment he finds himself in.

He does remind me of JVR though. Looks a bit like him.

And he does look younger. He's still likely to grow an inch or more. He

I think Timo is a very legit prospect, but really, the only way the Flyers get him is to move down from #7 to 11ish.....or to move up from 30 somehow, he's right in no mans land for us right now.

Interesting idea moving 7 to 11ish. What do you think the asking price would be?

I know you weren't asking me, but I have no idea. Lots potentially. But it does occur to me that in this draft, perhaps more than most, teams may have scenarios where they look to move back (or up) a few spots depending on who has been taken. Not necessarily in the top 10, but later in the 1st/early 2nd.  Pick swaps mostly. There's always some of that stuff, but this year seems more intriguing.

I have this feeling Crouse will be a bust.  Meier is more multi-dimensional.    Also I can't believe that you guys are putting so much into the scouting rankings.   Everyone knows the rankings are subjective and how many players picked lower in the first or even the 2nd round or later being better players then the first rounders?

Good it's settled then a defenseman it is.

I doubt Crouse will bust. People need to remember that he's 17 years old and that as a 6'4, 200+ pound winger, he's only going to get better. Of note, I was looking through the draft history at left wingers and he's put up better numbers as a 17 year old than quite a few players who have had or are having good NHL careers. People seem to be fixated on numbers, especially offensive production, and while Crouse's offensive production is just under a point per game, he's also become one of the most well rounded players in junior hockey. He's too smart to bust in that even if he doesn't become an elite offensive forward, his defensive game is superb and with the way he thinks the game, he'll become one of the most valued defensive players in the game.

I've seen Crouse about 40 times this year and I can tell you that he's ahead of a guy like Gabriel Landeskog was at the same age. He's going to be a real good one. As others have pointed out, you have to take guys like Meier and Rantanen with a grain of salt because they're almost a year older than most of these guys in the draft this year, so they should be further ahead in their development. Late year draftees are a crap shoot.

From everything I've read it would be a big, big surprise if Meier and or Rantanen went before Crouse.

Even if Meier was considered an equal to the names usually mentioned as potential 7th overalls, RW is the least position of concern on the team. I get that he's your guy, but as a Flyer fan we could really use a D/C/LW way more than a RW, If Meier was the best propsect available at #7, that's one thing...but he's not.

That is a good question peter. I have to say, there is a significant drop off in talent from #7 to #11ish....so I"d have to say a very late 1st, or a VERY early 2nd....somebody making this move is kinda "all in" to get the guy they really want, so it would not be cheap...just my opinion.

It can't be cheap, right? Because if you're the guy with the 7th pick, you've got to be getting something significant or why bother? OK, so you figure the guy you want will still be there at 11th pick. If you're not getting something significant, just pick him at 7th.

And if you're not getting something significant, you're just being nice ("No, you go first. Here, let me get the door")?

Nah. Go big or go home.

Now, here's a question: would a team sitting 15-25 take our 7th and VLC for their pick? And would you do that as your "Get out of Hell Free" card?

This is such a special draft, I would insist on a late 1st rounder...then turn around and trade both our late first to get back into the top 11/12/13 range...depending of course, on who is there etc...of course I want VLC gone as much as anyone else, but trading back in *this* draft has to be about more than saving cap space, at least ....from where I'm sitting.

Man that is tempting, but for the life of me I would have a very hard time giving up the likes of a Provorov or Werenski or Barzal.  The talent is still that good whe the Flyers pick at #7.  Now if this would be any other draft year were #7 through #20 are all equal then let me be the first person to drive Vinny to his new home.  However, in this years draft, for the chance the Flyers to get a very, very good player, as tempting as it might be to rid Vinny, I personally would not make the trade.....but that is just me.
