The article says it all.  @OccamsRazor made mention in the shoutbox.  It is a very intriguing thought.  Thought it was worth its own thread.

"Title is pretty self-explanatory here. Jonathan Drouin's had a rough go of things recently as pretty much everyone knows, being scratched in nearly all the Tampa playoff games this year, but he's obviously still very young and has incredible upside.

Drouin-Giroux-Voracek would be a lot of fun to watch, and would be a young and cheap way to add the scoring winger with upside that Ron Hextall says is a top priority for the team this offseason.

I'd say Drouin's ceiling is still higher than everyone in this draft class besides McDavid and Eichel, so the value is pretty good there in my opinion. Not sure if Tampa would think about it, but I could see them deciding that with Stamkos, Killorn, Callahan, Filppula, and the Triplets they're set on scoring wingers and could add a nice asset to the cupboard if they've soured even slightly on Drouin.

As far as Drouin's play goes, this season wasn't bad by any measure. He was 6th on Tampa in Points/60, behind only Johnson, Palat, Kucherov, Stamkos, and Killorn. For context, his 1.95 P/60 would have been 2nd on the Flyers behind Jakub Voracek. He was also 3rd on Tampa in even strength assists and even strength primary assists behind Palat and Johnson. He needs to generate more shots on goal, but I doubt he's going to shoot ~5% in the long run no matter what.

And again, the kid is young. His CF% of 53.3% and CF% Rel of 1.2 are both pretty solid as well, and considering he spent about half his ice time playing with Cedric Paquette and Brian Boyle (and half with Stamkos and Killorn, to be fair), I think his rookie season wasn't as much of a disappointment as some people might think.

I'd definitely give up 7 for him, and I'd probably give up 7 and Tampa Bay's pick as well."

What do you think?

If your intent is picking Crouse then I say yes depending on the cost.  If your intent is Provorov or Werenski then it is tough.  However as one poster responded:

To put this in context, Corey Pronman ranked the top 30 prospects of the last three drafts combined:

1. McDavid
2. MacKinnon
3. Eichel
4. Drouin
5. Jones
6. Ekblad
7. Barkov
8. Reinhart
9. Nichushkin
10. Bennett

Jonathan Drouin is a strait-up stud and trading for him would be the equivilant of trading for Eichel—-not gonna happen.

Bottom line.....I don't see Tampa making a trade unless we give up alot and in that case it is not worth it.

Pronman's rankings are whack, at least as far as Drouin goes. Ekblad lower? I'd say he is guilty of ranking forwards higher than D-men. But I'd also take Sam Bennett over Drouin right now.

Trading for Drouin is in no way equivalent to trading for Eichel. I wouldn't trade the 7th pick for Drouin. And the 7th pick doesn't get you close to Eichel.

It is a very intriguing thought.

It is intriguing i'll say for sure but i've got my mind made up on Provorov or Hanifin or Werenski...so that combined with the fact that he has been in the dog house because he doesn't want to play the 200 ft game just leads me to believe he won't fit in Hak's system which requires such...

...so he would toil here for a few more years and then the Flyers would have to trade him for like a 3rd round pick...so now way can i pass up a chance in the 7th for a risk like that.

I will say this though...i would trade the 2nd pick in the 1st round for him of course i know it would take more than that...but it's a starting point so the 29th pick and what else gets you Drouin????

And no before it's even asked.........i'm not trading any of the Dmen i our stable....so it would have to be a forward...or i would do next year's 1st rounder...

At the drop of a dime. I know some people aren't fans of his, but damn, he's got a set of hands. The puck possession game that he, Giroux and Voracek could play together would be just disgustingly good to watch. I get what Jon Cooper is doing though and Drouin is going to be a better player for it. His defensive game is weak and Cooper's going to make him work his hardest to get back into the lineup. The Ottawa Senators did the same thing with Jason Spezza and the Flyers did the same with Giroux. They were better players for that as well. Drouin would also fill that left wing spot for the next 15 years and could step in right away and contribute. I'd rather him than Michael Raffl on the top side left wing. That's as big a joke as anything.

I would make the trade. What you see right now, is not what you are gonna get in a few years. Stamkos never came in and dominated the league right off the hop either. Every prospect evolves at his own pace...Drouin is gonna be wicked good. I think he will eventually be better than anyone we could take at #7.....having said that....WHAT is that guy smoking...Exblad should not be that low on the list, the kid is a FRANCHISE D-Man....and will only get better and better....Exblad over McKinnon all day long!!

Without magically moving some dead weight no one wants, can we even fit him in under the cap?

If yes (AND one or two of the defensive prospects can come up and fit under the cap, as well) then I do that trade.

He'd be our (for now) cheap, really good left wing option for Giroux and Voracek and we have some D coming. Yes. Yes. And yes.

But Tampa is not doing that trade, because he IS better than our options at #7. But, if they're nuts, I take advantage of it.

I know nothing about him, but I have to wonder why Tampa would want to trade a 20-year old with 1 year of NHL experience? Does he have an injury history? Is he an ass hole or something?

No injury to speak of, don't really know to much about his personality. I think the rumors come from the fact he has had a slow start to his career and is having trouble staying in the Bolts playoff line up. People just expected more, his former linemate McKinnon on the Aves has made an impact already (although he slumped badly in his sophomore season). Some are getting antsy is all, figuring he should be doing more right now...personally, I think he will be fine....the talent is undeniable and the speed is elite...so he will be an impact player eventually. I don't believe for one minute that Stevie Y would trade him away.....just way to much potential.

I agree... I think this is a "make believe" type scenario.   TB is not doing that deal and as jammer said - it is not like Drouin is a run of the mill player.  The kid is going to be a great player at some point

Easily. Druoin's on an ELC that pays him 894,000 for the next two years. He'd be cheaper than just about any top line LW option out there - even Raffl. It would give the Flyers significant flexibility when it comes time to re-sign Jake, Couturier, and Schenn.

Maybe. I'm on record saying I'm not convinced.

Drouin has soft hands, no question. He's also very agile. But I wouldn't say he's an elite skater or has elite speed. He's worked on his skating though,  by the looks of it. Because it frankly wasn't very good coming our of Halifax. I still think he's maturing. And he needs to: he acted like a petulant spoiled brat at times in Halifax.

@Podein25  I thought skating was one of his better qualities?  I saw him create a lot of odd man rushes in the Q...and he appears to be able to pull away from defenders in the pros. I don't think he has Patrick Kane type of speed, but he's not a slouch either. The spoiled brat thing, heard that a few times, it would legitimately worry me. I want winners and team players.
