Least Impressive Player To Achieve 1000 Points

Ok, let me make this clear, no players that hit the 1000 point mark are actually bad, but i thought it would be interesting to discuss the least impressive player to achieve the 1000 point mark.

Here are a few players that I believe should be in the discussion...

Dale Hunter:

correct me if im wrong, but I think he has the worst ppg of any 1000 point player. He has had a couple of selke votes in his career, but he's no Rod Brind Amour. First time I saw his stats, I thought I already found the answer to this thread. I mean, the guy has no point, goal or assist finishes, and also had his prime in the 80s. But what I forgot to take into account was how many minutes he has spent in the penalty box....

3565 minutes. he has the second most PIM in all of hockey.... and for him to still achieve 1000 points, thats pretty damn impressive if you ask me. Im pretty sure if he spent less time being a pest and more time being an actual hockey player, his offense would look much more impressive.

Vincent Damphousse:

I was gonna put in Ray Whitney but i found Vincent instead, and unlike Whitney, was never top ten in  assists, goals, or points. had his prime during the early 90s and had the fortune of playing more then a couple of seasons in the start of his career in the 80s. He did finish 4th in selke voting one year though.

Brian Bellows

Well, besides having the third most goals in one year...he never was top ten in assists, points. And ofc, he played in almost every 80s season, and the early 90s as well.

Pat Verbeek:

Never had any goal, assist or point finishes, he was a good pest, but he still didnt have as much PIMs as Dale Hunter....they both played in the same era as well...

On second thought, i dont even know why Dale Hunter is one of my candidates anymore...

Phil Housley:

Poor mans Paul Coffey, meaning he was even worse defensively, while not being as good offensively as Coffey. Was a power play specialist, probably where he got more than half his points. Complete liability in his own end, and did i mention he was a defensemanÉ. Yep, he might as well have been a forward.

Maybe Dave Andreychuk because he played for such a long time, but not sure. When you reach that level, it's really tough to say getting to 1,000 points is unimpressive. Also, a guy like Brian Bellows could be put on the list. because he played in 1,022 games and accumulated 1,188 points. I know for sure who the most impressive one is on that list, and that's Mario Lemieux, 1723 points in 915 games. You could also, of course, argue Gretzky but no one was more dominant with their skill than Lemieux. Absolutely sick great scorer in an era where they actually played pretty good defense.

I have a tie between Doug Weight and Vincent Damphousse. Weight was barely a star, certainly not a superstar, Vincent was neither. If VLC can muster another 71 pts in this career (doubtful) than move him into a 3 way tie with the other 2 suspects. VLC....only one really great year, and he has STUNK for 3-4 years now.

Damphousse among those mentioned and that come to mind off the top of my head without looking up a list. I reserve he right to change my mind once I have looked at the list though.

I dont agree with Doug Weight. unlike some other players, he didnt get a chance to play in the 80s.

He also has a few selke votes along with alot of assist and apg finishes

Assists

1995-96 NHL 79 (5)

1996-97 NHL 61 (5)

1999-00 NHL 51 (8)

2000-01 NHL 65 (4)

2002-03 NHL 52 (10)

2003-04 NHL 51 (7)

Assists Per Game

1995-96 NHL 0.96 (6)

1996-97 NHL 0.76 (10)

1998-99 NHL 0.72 (8)

1999-00 NHL 0.66 (10)

2000-01 NHL 0.79 (7)

2002-03 NHL 0.74 (4)

2003-04 NHL 0.68 (7)

Points

2000-01 NHL 90 (8)

He was obviously one of the best playmakers while he played, he was more impressive than Ryan Whitney.

And about VLC...sure he has declined much worse than other players, but thats only because of injuries. The guy was one of the best players in the game during his peak. And has more top ten goal finishes and point finishes then a guy like Bellows.
