Let's talk draft wishes

Recommended Posts

Complete this sentence. "By the end of the first round I want the Flyers to have acquired..."

We got picks 7 and 29 and a defenseman to move.

Realistically what do you want to happen? How do you want the team to be different by the end of the night?

Sorry if this is a redundant topic. I'm bored and want to talk draft.

Provorov with the 7th, winger with 29th. Goalie in the 2nd, then whatever. Of course you go BPA but ideally thats what I would want.

Would be nice to trade away a couple dmen, probably won't be able to obtain anything of decent value but we need the roster spots and cap room.

Would even be willing to trade a VLC and a 3rd for future considerations to anyone willing to take the contract.

I want all GMs to take McKeen's advice only and follow their rankings.

This would give us Strome at #7 (yes, that's correct!) and Carlo at #29 in round 1.

Then, in the 2nd round, any of these goalies if somehow still available (Samsonov, Blackwood, Vlada, Tomek) . If none of them are available, take Austin Wagner, LW (ranked 64th by TSN): http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=161117

Third round, take the biggest, dumbest, slowest forward available.

Hey, were the Flyers after all, can't change too fast. Baby steps.

With the #7 I  have to say Provorov. If that doesn't work out than I would like to see Strome

With the #29, I say Ryan Pilon. Not because I have seen a lick of his play, but how suiting is it for the Flyers to have a defender in their system with a name that sounds similar to "Pylon"? I think he could be the better version of GrossHathje 2.0

That is a great 1st round as well...so it seems no matter how you spin it...the Flyers will more than likely get some great talent this draft...and i'm hoping they do heir homework and hit on some later ones too...

Option 1:

  • Offer the Schenns/Read/Laughton/#7 pick and #29 pick to Edmonton for #1 overall. (Add one more defenseman/forward/pick if necessary)
    •      If successful, immediately offer #1 pick to Sabres for Reinhart, Ristolainen and #2 pick
    •      If successful, immediately offer #2 pick to Coyotes for Domi, Duclaire and #3 pick
  • Draft best player available at #3
  • Send offer sheet to Saad

Option 2:  :)

  • Draft Provorov or Crouse at #7
  • Offer #29 for Mantha OR pick best player available at #29
  • Send offer sheet to Saad

@FD19372

I'd GIVE a 4th to get rid of him.

It's not as crazy as it sounds. It would actually be a very smart move. A team like the Yotes who can't score worth a lick, and have the worst centers in the league...I mean....Hanzel is your #1 go to center??? LOL!  Plus, the Yotes might have trouble reaching the ground floor of the cap.....so dangling a 4th, which would let them feel like winners in the deal....might just get it done. From a Flyers perspective, it would be more than worthwhile venture, I'd even go as high as a 3rd to make this happen!!

@ratskull  Can't see option #1 happening....not realistic, Edmonton is not trading a superstar for a role player, a player with some potential and Mr.Deer in headlights and a #7.....no way, no how.

I don't know where the Flyers would find the cap space to offer sheet Saad, plus, other teams with more cap space would crush any offer the Flyers could muster.

@Phillygrump

  1.   A center, a D-man, a LW and a Goalie.

I flip flop like a fish out of water trying to decide who to take with #7, so MANY variables between picks #3-7 it makes my head spin!!

for tonight at least, it's the following with #7....I will assume we have no chance at McBESTEVER, Eichel and Hanfin

1)Marner

2)Strome

3)Crouse

4)Werenski

5)Provorov

With the 30th, I hope and pray Brandon Carlo slips down that far, unlikely, but stranger things have certainly happened. If the #7 pick is a d-man, a forward becomes automatic....A goalie in the 3rd round would be a perfect fit, the Flyers desperatly need depth at that position.

TAKE A GANDER AT THIS MOCK...if this ever happened, I'd PISS my pants with joy and never change them!! LOL!! Actually, this is kinda creepy, cause this updated mock is EXACTLY what I"ve been posting for months....and I have recently REALLY come around to wanting the BIG Euro goalie Tomak with our 3rd rounder....WOW!!

Literally, every player I want is here....AND Roy in the 3rd round??....WHERE THE HELL DO I SIGN UP?!?!?

(* = Junior; ** = Sophomore; *** = Freshman)

1 7 Lawson Crouse LW Kingston (OHL) 6' 2.5" 189

1 30 Brandon Carlo D Tri-City (WHL) 6' 5" 185

2 60 Matej Tomek G Topeka (NAHL) 6' 3" 170

3 70 Nicolas Roy C Chicoutimi (QMJHL) 6' 3.5" 185

3 91 Jesper Lindgren D Modo Hockey (SEL) 6' 0" 161

4 98 Nikita Pavlychev C Des Moines (USHL) 6' 6" 206

New mock from The Hockey Writers....

http://thehockeywriters.com/4th-annual-nhl-mock-draft-2015-round-1/

He has the Flyers picking Werenski!

ANALYSIS: Ron Hextall is likely to draft a defenceman and assuming Hanifin is long gone, a lot of people have Ivan Provorov penciled in here. However, my gut is telling me that new coach Dave Hakstol will be higher on Werenski coming from an NCAA background at North Dakota. Hakstol could sway Hextall in the decision between two puck-movers, and the Flyers saw the benefits of having Michael Del Zotto in that role this past season. Philadelphia also has former NCAA stud Shayne Gostisbehere in the pipeline, but he’s more of a power-play specialist whereas Werenski is reminiscent of Ryan McDonagh. If not Werenski or Provorov, then budding power forward Lawson Crouse would fit the bill as a prototypical Flyer.

@pilldoc  Werenski has a long way to go when comparing him to McDonough, especially in the balance/skating dept, but yeah, I can see why Ryan was used to compare him with....there is some real similarities in their games. Not that Werenski is a bad skater by any means, I just think there is room for improvement there, but he has a very nice powerful stride and nice top end speed, he just has a few kinks to work out. He's still one of the youngest top 10 ranked players, so he is no where near a finished product skating wise.

great assessment jammer...   I think if they go defense and Provolone is on the board he would be my pick.   The kid is ready to play in the NHL where I think Werenski is a bit down the line.   As you stated he is not near reaching his potential so the upside is there.  Just depends on how they are comparing the two...

Although, I think there could be a draft day shocker and Hextall pulls something off...

Option #1 was in jest.  :D  There's no way we land a generational player for spare parts. I also agree that we will be outbid by other teams for Saad, but it can't hurt to try. Making our competitors pay more for him wouldn't be a bad thing.
