B21
Per Jason Mackey of the Trib (in an interview on WFAN 93.7) - the Pens inquired. Chicago asked for Kasperi Kapanen, Beau Bennett and a 2016 1st. JR politely turned them down. By "politely", I hope he meant "WTF are you smoking?" More intriguing, Chicago - who knows a thing or two about player development - asked for Beau Bennett. Take the hint, Pens. Brittle Beau may be worth one last shot among the top 6. A real shot....not 3 games then a demotion to the 4th line.
jammer2
@B21 This is not the kinda trade a smart team would make. The guy looked like he was regressing all through these playoffs. He might come back strong next season, or he could be headed into regress mode....I don't pay young talent to take this guy on. To big of a risk. Polaris922
Sharp is fading... Kapanen shows promise. Bennett is an enigma.
jammer2
Bennett is an enigma. Yeah, Bennett just seems like one of those guys with promise that could never stay healthy. Next year is a big time make or break for him.
Polaris922
Yeah, Bennett just seems like one of those guys with promise that could never stay healthy. Next year is a big time make or break for him.A few of us thought that of this past season. I honestly don't know what to think of him.
FD19372
If I'm Pittsburgh, I don't give up Kapanen under any circumstances, unless they offer Kane (and that ain't happenin').

Agree....so we know Rutherford isn't ^^^ this ^^^ nuts. Would I take Sharp as a reasonably price with a not-too-long contract? Sure. I don't trade for Sharp and his current contract. B21
Yeah, Bennett just seems like one of those guys with promise that could never stay healthy. Next year is a big time make or break for him. Sure is...but the Pens cannot continue to roll him out on the 3rd or 4th lines. Give him a long look among the top 6 and make sure he knows this is his last "chance". yave1964
The Capitals are now supposedly in the Sharp sweepstakes, offering their number one and nothing else, with the Hawks trying to squeeze a player out of them.Backstrom is out at the start of the year, the Caps are gonna be a bit thin on offense so Sharp makes sense. As far as the Pens, Bennett and their first is the absolute line in the sand I would offer. 33 years old, goals cut in half last year to 16, two year, 5.9 million a year still on the books. He would be ideal as a top six for the Pens but is high risk because of age, injury history over the past several years. More than that, I would tell the Hawks to pound sand. I wouldn't even go that far. The Hawks have no leverage in trying to deal Sharp. I take that 1st from the Caps and run with it. The Hawks need to view any trade for Sharp as what they get in return plus who they can keep with the cap space moving him creates.

To be honest I hope the Pens would keep their draft choices!
