ScottM
I just finished a fantasy draft, and it occurred to me that a topic like this could be fun. It's exactly what it sounds like. Post your fantasy roster(s) here and let the conversation begin. What do you like? What do you not like? Here's the one I just picked up to start: Forwards:Steven StamkosJohnny GaudreauJonathan ToewsRyan Nugent-HopkinsJarome IginlaNick BjugstadMatt MoulsonNino NiederreiterTyler BozakMax DomiValeri NichushkinTomas Hertl Defensemen:Erik KarlssonShea WeberKevin ShattenkirkAaron EkbladDougie HamiltonCody FransonTravis Hamonic Goalies:Jonathan QuickJonas HillerOndrej Pavelec The league has 9 active forwards, 5 active defensemen, 1 utility player, and 2 active goalies. I definitely feel that my defense will be my strongest spot, since barring disaster I'll have those top five guys active. It's a 12-team league, and I've arguably got four #1 blueliners and a top flight #2.
jammer2
@ScottM The way your roster is selected, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that face offs is a cat.
AJgoal
My draft is still going. So far I have Giroux, Backstrom, Vrbata, Saad, Nash, Forsberg, and the Blues' goalie (we use team goalies instead of individuals). Our setup is 2 centers, 4 wings, 4 d, and 1 goalie active. Still need 4 defensemen and 3 bench players. Can't carry more than one goalie.
ScottM
@jammer2 Actually, faceoffs aren't a category. When I went after my forwards, those centers just looked like the best options.
J0e Th0rnton
@ScottM I will as soon as I have a draft lol. My work pool is scheduled for Sept 27th, and Nahana keeper is schedule for Oct 5th. Since I inherited a rebuild team, I get to draft 1st overall Waiting to see if I end up in the tier 1 all star league and when the draft is. Yeah, I intend to have those guys on the bench most of the time. I was still pretty happy that I managed to get Domi late. I think he's going to have a good rookie season. I almost took him one round earlier than I did, so I was especially happy to get him where I did.

jammer2
OK...my keeper league just re-drafted...you keep all the players on your roster except you cut 6 at the end of the year. Hits and PIM's count, so I tried to take them into account, but still leaned towards pts which is worth more...10 teams, each roster has 11 forwards, 7 dmen and 4 goalies. Wins do not count for goalies. Forwards 1)John Tavares ...had the 7th pick overall, McDavid went #6 2)Ryan Johansen3)Nick Foligno4)Chris Kreider5)Nathan McKinnon6)Sean Monahan7)Mark Schieifele8)Mark Stone9)Scott Hartnell10)Ryan Strome11)Kikolaj Ehlers Defense 1)Victor Hedman2)Tyson Barrie3)Dougie Hamilton4)Zach Bogosian5)Ryan Ellis6)Darnell Nurse7)Risto Ristolaninen Goalies 1)Brayden Holtby2)Martin Jones3)Jonas Hiller4)Petr Mrazek I tried to stay young, with upside, but not hurt my team this year, which was a fine balancing act....and you cannot roster a player who is not active in the NHL. J0e Th0rnton
C: Pavelski, Kesler, Bjugstad, VermetteLW: Galchenyuk, LowryRW: Carter, ZIbanejad, BrouwerD: Carlson, Boychuk, Girardi, Hamonic, MyersG: Quick, Dubnyk, Smith Had Backes, but traded him for Carter with Polaris. Balances me better at RW All in all, Very happy with my team. 3 workhorses for goalies, and even though Arizona sucks, Smith faces a ton of shots and it factors into the score. Carlson will have the Caps PP all to himself this year instead of Green taking top PP time. Boychuk's peripheral stats makes him nearly as valuable as Carlson, as do Hamonic's. Had to adjust a bit on the fly since I only realized 20 minutes before draft time that SOG were now counted. Was sad Whiskey picked up Savard before me, as I had him a darkhorse. But I got my other Darkhorse on D in Myers. I expect Bjugstad to improve off last year. Was not originally on my radar, but with SOG added, he popped out at me. Vermette is terrific to have as backup, as he is a faceoff machine. I also wanted Mikko Koivu, but JR snagged him before me. I did a bit of math on faceoffs and realized a 43 point Vermette who wins 900 faceoffs is almost equal in value to Tarasenko week after week and that I would be able to snag him waaaaay later. And quite frankly, players usually keep winning faceoffs regularly even if they have a cold week for scoring Pavelski I picked first and people thought I was a crazy homer. But he gets a lot of PP points, goals and has over 260 shots per year and wins near 700 faceoffs.
The Mountain Man
Here is one of fantasy teams...chosen in a different order obviously. Each night we play 2C, 2RW, 2LW, 4D, and 1G C - Kane, Stasny, RNH, StromeRW - Eberle, HossaLW - Hall, Palat, Kuznetsov, LucicD - Karlsson, Keith, Josi, ReillyG - Elliott, Anderson Although I am an Oilers fan...the Oilers I took were the best option at the time...just worked out that way LOL I am weakest in net.... again just the way it turned out. yave1964
Last nights draft I had pick number 5, went with Price, followed by Fleury. A premium is set for goalie wins, both should start 60ish games this year and get 40 or so wins. Then I built my defense, we start only 2 C, LW and RW while we start 4 d-men, I got burns, giordano, Ekblad and Faulk, all of whom should score 50 or more points this year, I would rather have a 50 plus point dman over a 60 point winger any day of the week, wingers can always be found but not elite defenseman. I took Backstrom who slipped to me in the third round because he might miss a week of the season, Paxioretty fell to me in the 5th round with his 37 goals, Simmonds and Nyquist will have 50 plus PPP between them, and my centers are not sexy but Plekanec, Little and Krejci behind Backstrom are certainly more than capable. Two areas I wish were better are my RWs, I have Nyquist and Gallagher only, that will be addressed, dangling a LW like Vanek to make it happen. The other is players in this league qualify at one position, I should have taken more wingers who get faceoffs for secondary points. This too, will eventually be addressed. hf101
Here's my drafted HF.net All Star Team which is the first of my 3 FHL teams. C Giroux, McDavid, Stepan, StastnyLW Parise, Saad, HuberdeauRW Wheeler, Pominville, NichushkinD Doughty, Muzzin, Yandle, Chara, DumbaG Holtby, Luongo Really happy to get Giroux with the 7th pick of the Draft. And I picked up McDavid in the 5th round if his +/- isn't what Oilers' players of the past are I should be in good shape at Center.I got 2 Goaltenders that will play 60 games - Couldn't decide if I should grab a 3rd or not with my last pick but I figured I'd use Nichushkin more than a back up in this league with a weekly roster set. - That may bite me with a major injury to either netminder but we'll see how this all plays out. The remainder of my wingers I'm happy with as they will all play on their respective team's first lines and first PP. If anything, my wingers may be a bit lacking in Hits and Blocked Shots but I'll have to see how that plays out. My defense isn't too shabby either other than I'm totally depended on the Kings playing like they must make the playoffs. My strategy on defense seems to be the opposite of some of the others who posted their rosters above . Doughty was picked early 4th round, but after that I didn't address my defense much until some of the later rounds. Yandle I chose in the 8th round. Last years + / - was mostly due to his play with the Yotes. Although I'm not going to get much for hits and blockshots with him he will put up a lot of SOG as the Rangers #1 PP d-man. I snagged two late d-men picks - Chara (15th) round. Seriously I've never seen him drop so low in a draft before. LOL. And I chose Dumba in the 16th round. Dumba is having a great pre-season and although he is slated to be the #5,6 d-men with the Wild I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he is moved up to the first line with Suter and if that happens he will be a steal for a pick at #16. What is interesting so far with this ESPN league from Yahoo is there aren't any Dual position assignments which will make this a lot tougher than in Yahoo where players often get C, LW or RW, LW status. J0e Th0rnton
It wasn't crazy at all, imo. I had Pavelski extremely high on my own list.Looking at the Categories and basing it on last years stats,Vermette(Who I drafted) and Koivu(Who you drafted) as an example.Vermette: goals 13x3= 39, Assists 25 x2= 50, +/- minus 25 = -25, ppp 14 = 14, SHP 0=0, Hat 0 = 0, SOG 109 = 32.7, Faceoffs won 872 x0.2= 174.4, Hits 80 x0.3=24, Blocked shots 50x0.3=15 = Total 324.1 divided by 82 games = 3.95 points per gameKoivu ended up with freaking 402.8, = 4.9 points per game.I feel stupid for taking Vermette first now. Both are faceoff specialists, but Koivu took nearly 1000 faceoffs and had more shots on goal. They went 148 and 161 in the draft. But when compared to someone like Tarasenko, who outscores both by a country mile and went 6th overall in the draft, yet ends up with a score like 326.2. Which is equal to Vermette around 3.97 points per game.hehehe. Faceoff wins generally don't go cold, so they will pull in a few points a week even if they don't score.Your team scares me when I look at it. because Bergeron, Toews and Koivu faceoff Monsters, and Getzlaf is pretty darn good too.But after close inspection, Claude Giroux is actually the most valuable player in the league based on last years stats. His score rounds out to 542.7, which averages to 6.9 points per game. Almost 300 shots and near 1100 faceoff wins..........

Giroux was tops on my list, and it was looking like I'd have my chance to get him... But he was selected just before my turn came up. Overall, I'm relatively happy: I walked out with 3 of the top 5 players according to my pre-scouting. I was laughed at for taking Bergeron 8th overall, but there's way more to this than boxcar numbers. Will it work out? Time will tell.
Polaris922
Okay here we go... C: Crosby, Monahan, Backes, Staal, E. and Sutter, B. LW: Nash, Hoffman, KunitzRW: Vrbata, HornqvistD: Letang, Daley, Wideman, SuterG: Crawford, Hiller, Pavelec I tried to focus on stats overall, not JUST scoring. All of the centers have high stat categories, and Crosby's will only go up barring injury, as his stats last year were with missing a lot of games again. Monahan is a rising star. Sutter, though I didn't consider him really till the last pick, has solid stats across the board for faceoffs, hits and blocks, short handed points, and has a history of 20 goal seasons on a third line contract. Wingers I was a bit stronger till trading with Joe and giving up Carter, but I think Vrbata, and Nash are solid for goals and assists, and I'm betting on Hornqvist with Malkin, Kunitz starting the season with Crosby and Kessel. If they fall apart, they were late picks so I can dump them for others. Hoffman was a little noticed guy with Ottawa projected to make 30 goals this year, who really tore it up for spurts last year. Defense? Well.. the defense went quickly. I'm hoping Letang has an injury free season and can pull in a season high in goals. He does get a fair amount of hits and with his ice time, working with the power play opportunities Kessel will add to the team? I'm happy there. Suter is steady, Daley will improve stats with Chicago over dallas I think, so the real question mark is Wideman. IF Calgary comes off the way they did last year he will do well enough to be happy. If he slumps or the team struggles as in the past he will disappoint I'm sure. Goal... well... Crawford when healthy gets a lot of ice time. Hiller took over for Calgary last year so here's hoping he does it again. Pavelec is all about shots against. The guy plays non-stop and though he doesn't win as much, he faces a boatload of activity on any given night.

ScottM
Here's my roster from our forum's league's draft: (Note: This is as it came from the draft. No adjustments made yet.) C: Claude Giroux, Henrik SedinLW: Alex Galchenyuk, James van RiemsdykRW: Mark Stone, Jeff CarterD: Shea Weber, Alex Pietrangelo, Johnny Boychuk, Dennis WidemanUtil: Patrick MarleauBench: Troy Brouwer, Mark Scheifele, Kris RussellG: Henrik Lundqvist, Devan DubnykBench: Mike Smith Faceoffs for forwards and blocked shots for defensemen were a big factor. For example, Russell was ranked in the 300's by ESPN, but his points totals are far higher than many above him because of the blocks.
TropicalFruitGirl26
Here is mine..also as it came from the draft, non-adjusted.This is for the HF.net Bantam "A" league C-- R. Getzlaf, J. SpezzaRW- J. Pominville, N. NiederreiterLW- P. Maroon, J. HuberdeauD- D. Hamilton, A. Goligoski, M. Giordano, M. Dumba Util: D. Girardi Bench: C. Hagalin, A. Stralman, D. Weise G--B. Holtby, F. AndersenBench Goalie: P. Mrazek My first fantasy hockey league ever, so i tried hedging my bets and going with guys who could do a bit of everything, but did place a premium on hitters who can score and hitters who can block shots on D.My D-men for the most part are 'workhorse' types and are out there usually for all situations, so gives me opportunity to pick up points whether its even strength or special teams.I took a chance on some guys who I really expect to have either break out years (Dumba in Min, and Mrazek in Det), or guys who I expect will have BETTER numbers due to being on a team that can better utilize them in their systems (Hagelin in Ana, Hamilton in Cgy for instance). There were a couple players I was trying to get but simply weren't there (Lucic, Perry, Stamkos, Palat), but overall, I am pretty happy with my first foray into the world of fantasy hockey.Like Matt Dumba in Minnesota, I can only get better from here on out... I really didn't think I'd get either of them, but I targeted him and Holtby for my back-to-back 2nd/3rd round picks. Price, obviously, was long gone. Holtby was gone when my turns came, but Lundqvist was still there, so I grabbed him and Dubnyk. Two Vezina finalists aren't so bad. Lol
