@Old School HockeyIt has to be really. It is time. Thanks for the memory of a great postseason or two Mule, now go and live your life.On the plus side both Dekeyser and Helm are due back this weekend.

Its time for him to hang them up....no sense risking it...shut it down.

Yeah, he is at that point where the next hit could cause him the need to relearn retying his shoes, cue cards to relearn names and gorilla sized diapers.

Hang em up.

And someone who he trusts needs to sit him down and be brutally honest with him and tell him like it is. His skating days are over.

This is at least a legitimate LTIR. After having a promising preseason, him walking away now can ONLY be because he is legitimately unable to play. This isn't contract gamesmanship here, although the Wings would be better off keeping him on LTIR as long as they can, as @Old School Hockey stated.

It's a shame, because the preseason showed to SOME degree that if he is feeling OK, he can contribute. But his play fell off his last two games, and in that game against Carolina, he had an unforeseen collision with an opposing player. I think he may have been already feeling it slightly prior to the hit, and the hit just finished him off. To most players, that collision would be minor. But for him, it was his curtain call. If that is all it took to put him back in bed, he needs to stay away from hockey rinks until he feels as close to 100% as he can get, and never look back. Maybe in a front office role, but nothing more.

Opportunity knocks. I'll be interested to see who steps up from the kids to claim his spot.
