Okay it was only against the Toronto Maple leafs......

Bob Hartley who in my opinion is one of the most underrated coaches of young players in the game is at it again. Tired of the lackadaisical play of his team he benched the teams two leading scoreres, Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Sean MonahanMonahan as well as Monahans roommate Lance Bouma, not for being late but for only being 15 minutes early.

Practice was at 10:30 and the two roommates arrived 15 minutes early. Gaudreau supposedly came in around this time too, Monahan and Gaudreau were taking their time getting ready while Hartley steamed, Bouma, a sub at least rushed onto the ice. Hartley called him off a few minutes later and told the three of them to take a seat in the press box for the night, that if they did not want to be leaders and show up early and lead by example, they could watch the team play from upstairs instead.

Hartley then called the rest of the team together on the ice and ripped them for over twenty five minutes at the top of his lungs. Practice over.

The Flames won last night 4-3 over the Leafs.

Not much is being said by either coach or players so far, other than this is a crucial week and they need every point to claw back into the race. Monahan has been a special project of Hartley who as a teen last year played big minutes against other teams top lines and excelled, but has been only okay so far this year. Gaudreau is 10th in the league in scoring.

Message sent. For one night, message received. Lets see where it goes from there.

Deadspin is reporting/speculating that the three were hung over. No surprise there.

Last year Hartley told Monahan that he was playing regular shifts in any and all situations and would either get he, hartley fired or win him the Adams. He won the Adams. This year Monahan has not been dreadful but has not been the same player. This sounds like a wakeup call to him specifically.

Sorry, but I'm calling BS on this one. He knew who they were playing - and at home too. Could have benched both goalies and still won.

If he does this against L.A. or Chicago that's different.......;)

Well it is always nice when you can drive a point home to some players AND still get the win. Definitely agree that this would not have happened if they were playing LA or Chicago.
