I ask this, because I genuinely believe Holtby isn't, or atleast shouldn't be, the clear cut winner for the Vezina Trophy. Although Holtby likely wins it since the voters tend to hold a team stat in higher regard then they really should. but that's why the title is "Should" and not "will". Looking back at previous winners, my statement does have validity. The perfect example of this is Martin Brodeur's Vezina wins. In two of his four Vezina wins, he was not even top ten in save percentage ( The most individual oriented goalie stat ) and every Vezina he won he conveniently had the most wins. That's absurd no matter what anyone else says. So the probability of Holtby winning is rather high. So here are a select few goalies that I feel deserve are performing just as well, or even better than Holtby.

Arguments for Cory Shcneider

- Has the second highest save percentage and the lowest GAA with goalies more then 40 games played.

- Has the most losses among the top 10 leaders of GAA and save percentage

- Has faced the second most shots among the top 10 leaders of GAA and save percentage

- Plays on the team with the lowest goals for and against per game

- Easily has the worst team of the Vezina contenders

Arguments for Corey Crawford

- Has the highest save percentage with goalies more then 40 games played.

- Faces the most shots of any goalie among the top 10 leaders of GAA and save percentage

- has a worse GAA then Shcneider and Holtby yet retains a higher save percentage then both of them

- Has the second most wins ( this is in his favour because he still is second in save percentage for goalies qualified for the Vezina )

Arguments for Petr Mrazek

- Leads the league in GAA and save percentage.

So, who do you think should win the Vezina? Do you still think Holtby is the clear cut winner? I'd love to hear it.

His stats were a step below at the time this thread originally was started and his overall win totals are significantly behind the "top" guys, but Ben Bishop currently leads the entire NHL with a 2.04 GAA and is 4th with a .927 Sv% (the top three guys are all tied at .929).

And of those top three in Sv %, Griess and Elliot have only 30 and 34 games played respectively. Corey Crawford has 55 GP...and Bishop matches up more closely with him at 50 GP.

As is usually the case, the wins Bishop has (28) will likely keep him out of the Vezina conversation because they seem rather low when compared to the top wins leaders (34+), but his individual GAA and Sv% are top notch, to go along with the amount of games and minutes played....and he did much of his BEST work when the Lightning offense was (and sometimes still are) trying to find their way.

Not going to say the absolutely SHOULD win it, but IMO, he definitely deserves to be in the conversation at this point in time.

Hard to say till the season is over. Its a closer year than most, but as of now, Holtby's 8 losses stands out lol

That's all well n good...and ultimately, what will likely keep things in his favor should he win....but still, just like the wins, that is a team stat.

His individual GAA and Sv%, while obviously NOT awful (damned good in fact, at 2.25 and .922), still lag behind some other goalies who DON'T have the offense and defense of the Caps.

Of course, no sooner do I mention Bishop's great numbers, then he goes and gives up 3 goals real quick to the Flyers yesterday...Still though, Bish's 2.04 / .926 are sparkling!  :ahappy:

Okay, I'm slow in finding this, but are you sure you didn't get hacked by a Sabres fan that shall remain unnamed?

Is someone stuck in a time warp maybe back to the 2009-2010 season and voting in Ryan Miller? :)

When you run into the Sabres fan who shall still remain nameless, you'll understand. Lol
