Dan Blysma that is! Along with the Buffalo Sabres. The Pens should avoid overlooking this team! It for the most part an extended 2016/17 preseason. (Meaning some are trying to make an impression for next year) and may come to play for the only reason pride!

Well it wasn't pretty, but two points is two points.   Way too many defensive blunders tonight.  Murray was left out to dry a couple of times.  Power play really looked pretty bad, but at least they were getting shots off.

It sounded like the Pens took this team to lightly! Murray came up big against Eichel in the 3rd! Which was a nice stop on a breakaway!

Jane, I disagree, the Pens came out in force in the first period and fired 18 shots on Johnson and maintaining possession.  They were flying but didn't light the lamp.   The power play goal that Buffalo scored in the first was the first shot on the power play with only 15 or so seconds left when Ben Lovejoy left his position on the weak side of the net and allowed the defenseman to come in the back side(Third goal was exactly the same).   And their second  goal came of a rebound that should have been cleared to the corner but bounce off Kessel's skate back to the crease for a tip in. Pens dominated play but were down 3-0.

For the first period, the Pens dominated play but did not score. For the second period, the Pens dominated and scored four.   The third period was more evenly played, but the Pens stopped the shot first mentality and gleaned less scoring chances(Oh the pretty passes started up too). Not sure why they changed but its something that needs to be addressed.

In the end, the Sabres made the most of a couple of defensive mistake, but the Pens constant pressure paid off again.

Stat of the night.  Congrats to Matt Cullen in the faceoff circle last night.   Won 15 of 19 faceoffs, that's just unreal.

I had the game on radio, tuned in a few minutes before the 1st Pens short-handed goal. In most cases when down 3. 0 to a team like the Sabres a team usually mails in a game. I figured that was what happened! They have Nashville next, that I thought was their focus since they provide stiffer competition.
