Drake Caggiula

The Flyers are being reported as the front runner to signing the 2016 Frozen Four MVP.  With him playing at University of ND under Hakstol for 3 years and sounds as if he would be a very solid prospect.  He got 25G/26A in 39 GP, not too shabby!

I hope so. I have been lobbying for him for awhile now. I have posted many time in the LV Phantoms thread. Flyers could use a LW of his caliber.

I thought Friedman from CBC said that the Flyers weren't in on Caggiula because they already have too many players like him in the system. I'll be honest - I hope they sign him and he becomes a top line left winger. His speed to go along with Giroux and Voracek could give other teams fits for years to come. I had hopes that Hakstol would use Schenn on the top line left wing, but I think he likes Schenn with Couturier (not that there's anything wrong with that either). Personally, if I'm coach, I go with Schenn - Giroux - Simmonds and then Caggiula - Couturier - Voracek as the follow up line.

It seems like everyone is a front runner for this kid for one reason or another.  Buffalo has the inside track because he was in their prospect development camp in 2014, the Blackhawks are the front runner because their 2014 1st round pick Nick Smaltz was his linemate...  Hakstol I'm guessing has the edge over all of that, if he wants him.

Yes Hak recruited him to North Dakota and a team mate of his is already in the Flyer system however didn't play this year in Michael Parks. So if the Flyers offer i'd like to think the could get him. But ultimately at the end of the day only he knows.

His name is practically Caligula. Sign him! What could possible go wrong?

I was just thinking the same thing, every time I look at his name.  I wonder what his 'nickname' will become if he winds up a Flyer???

The thing that stands out about this for me is that North Dakota finally won the championship the year Hakstol leaves.  That's gotta suck a bit for him.

Several teams are supposedly in on this, so I wouldn't get our hopes up too much.  Maybe Hak gives us an inside track, maybe, but this kid's going to go with the best deal for his future.  All the youth on D, Konecny and a good showing against the caps in the first round all can't  hurt!

A team like Buffalo however, they can promise him NHL minutes next year.  Hextall and Hakstol would never make that promise.  It's possible, but they'd never promise it.

Right... and locking up this kid would totally kill our Stamkos UFA plans...

But seriously, Wouldn't it be nice to not have to rely on Matt Read doing "so many things well"?

and Raffl's a good addition, but this kid's got potential.  Worst case, they trade him for a goalie before RFS status is up (Mason and Neuvy won't hold up forever).

All good. Excellent work. Gold star. :goodjob:

I knew a guy once who we called "Boots." This later turned into "Boutros Boutros" which is an all-time favorite of mine. I wish I could take credit for that one. Nicknames are important. Makes everyone feel welcome.

Well if he liked playing for Hakstol then Philly has a chance to sign him without wasting a draft pick. If he didn't like playing for Hakstol then Philly has no chance. But based on the Flyers lineup Hexie could probably offer him a top 6 spot.
