It's hard to score when the goalie sees every shot. What a dreadful PP strategy. Do they know what a one-timer is from the point?

Caps have 2 PP goals, both screened shots from the point by Carlson. Flyers keep trying to work it low, and take shots from the faceoff circle... Why? Who knows... it's not working. Change it up Hakstoll.

Clearly, ANY goals we get on Holtby are going to have to be in the blue paint and dirty, gritty goals.  Stick both White and Simmonds at the same time in front of Holtby. Make the Capitals pick their poison.

Obviously 90% of playoff goals seem to be downlow gritty scrum shots, but those are usually due to screens, deflections or rebounds.  The Flyers PP has consisted on wristers from the circle right at Holtby with no screens.  Just one time, ONE TIME, an we just attempt a one time point shot?! Our one goal was practically a fluke. We have created ZERO pressure on Holtby.  You could replace him with almost any goalie in the league and the scores would be the same.

Meanwhile our PK is the complete opposite. It's like 4 guys afraid to make a play and instead sit around in a box formation and let the Caps pass the puck at will back and forth.

And man oh man, did Mason let up a stinker. It's like a Flyers' playoff tradition. Our goalies can make 50 saves, with 4-5 highlight reel stops, but EVERY year they give up one of the worst head scratching back breaking goals.  It's almost comical.

Our limited PP success is a reflection of the offense. We are not that gifted.  Our shot count is high. But Holtby doesn't seem fazed. Our one score came out of nowhere. Interesting that we have speed.  But it doesn't to matter.

It is time to try Medvedev and sit Manning for starters. It can't hurt. Not sure what else they can do.....sad just sad. Caps are just bigger faster and more determined. Just playing like you' d want them to play on a spectrum.

The Flyers are on the other end of the spectrum....

Our PP stinks cause for some reason the Flyers think that unscreened wristers from low angles are the only way to even attempt to score. And half those shots go wide of the net and then go off the boards and out of the zone. Heaven forbid they let one rip from the point... It seems the only point shots they've taken are wristers where they wait for the defender to get directly in front of them and then it gets blocked.

Caps 2-for-2 with 2 shots on the PP. First goal was another screened point shot like in Game 1, the other was a one-timer.  It also helps that our PK is the most passive soft PK I've ever seen. It's just 4 guys scrunched together near the goalie and allowing the Caps to pass it around like it's shooting practice. At least attempt to put some pressure on the puck...

Another thing that might help is if the Flyers could find the puck. Never seen a team seem to just have no clue where the puck is.

Isn't this great, making the playoffs. Who wants to win a cup when you can just keep being mediocre year after year! No size, no skill. Awesome.

To be fair, nobody expected the Flyers to even make the playoffs this year. So I guess they are ahead of schedule. That being said, once you're in, every fan just wants to win. And between how we played down the stretch and the choking Capitals it seemed like a good matchup.  But after watching the first 2 games, they are well ahead of us, despite the split in the season series. Only way we win this series is pure luck at this point.  We were the team that needed a fluke goal like the one Mason gave up.  You can't go up against a better team and give up terrible goals like that. The Flyers in both games had ample opportunity to grab an early lead and put the pressure on the Capitals. Instead they settled for weak shot attempts and then the Capitals jumped on the few chances they got and took the lead. You can't have a 1+ minute 5-on-3 and come away with no goals. You're just not gonna win many games like that...

Every LEGITIMATE contender this year is in the position because they went through some lean times in order to rebuild. By drafting in the top 3 or 5. It is the only way to win a cup in the salary cap world. Every team in the NHL seems to get this except the Flyers. I don't give a **** about home dates in the playoffs, I'm not a shareholder, and I would like to see a Cup before I"m pissing in a diaper. 41 years ago they won a 2nd straight cup. If you weren't around you don't know the feeling. I'm from Canada so I don't really care about sports with balls, it's all about the hockey. The Flyers have  3 guys that could make the Caps roster. Not pretty. The Flyers in the seventies scared the crap out of teams, just like the Caps scared the crap out of the Flyers tonight. Can we please draft a BIG forward who can skate and score. There are a bunch of them in this draft, but this dysfunctional team played their way out of obtaining any of them. There you go, my rant is over. Until Monday.
