Polaris922
The way this series has been? There'd be a handful of suspensions by now if you go after that stuff. At game speed it certainly didn't looks quite like that!
Polaris922
It actually looks like they speed up the replay at just the right moment to make it look like a slash. At game speed in realtime it looked like he was avoiding the hit and stalberg skates into the stick as Letang is coming out. Should've been a two minute minor for high sticking and that's that. They way they change speeds here makes it look vicious. Game time it wasn't
hf101
Here's the video then. There was no speeding up the video to make it look like a slash. It was a slash and to the head of Stalberg. If the league is consistent they gotta sit Letang for a game or two. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/kris-letang-suspended-vicious-stick-swing/
Polaris922
@hf101 that at looks the same. Maybe he really swing that hard and it just looks so fast on these replays? During the game I remember thinking "yikes... He should a got two there" but nothing like the axe murdering that looks like here!
pilldoc
Yeah..just looked at the replay. 2 hand Paul Bunyan type chop to the throat.....league needs to be consistent. 1-2 games. No more..no less then move on. There should have been 2 or 4 called on the ice. (looked like Stalberg had some blood). IMO Letang is generally not known for these types of actions and is not a repeat offender. Like I said...sit him for 1-2 games and move on. murraycraven
That is definitely a suspension - absolutely no way they can allow that to go unpunished.
fan4ever
It looks like he looked right at him and changed the position of his stick to get maximum impact. Whether they can think that fast, I don't know, but it does look very nasty and intentional. 2 Games
B21
Tough call. His stick is already up on the follow through of the clearing attempt. As @fan4ever noted, that's some pretty fast thinking to be intentional. Definitely should have been a high stick. Suspension? Iffy. I don't see how you can suspend for that if Wayne Simmonds gets nothing for his slash at Matt Murray's throat (and that was after the whistle). Missed penalty call. Not much more. sarsippius
He looked right at him, and brought the stick back down. Should have been a double minor on the ice. And I think he should sit out a game.
DaGreatGazoo
That's a deliberate slash. It's not a follow through and it's not an accident. Stick stops/maintains it's plane on the follow through and then there's a slashing motion. Honestly, don't think he'll get suspended. He should have gotten a penalty, at least 4, maybe a major. No penalty, no suspension, IMO.
AJgoal
Deliberate shot to the head needs to be a suspension.

AJgoal
So the league fails to suspend a "star player" for a headshot? Color me surprised.
eleven24
All one has to do is look at the right hand. Slow motion or not, the right hand thrusts forward and it does so after he has already completed the follow through on the clearing attempt. On top of that, the slash occurs after Letang picks his head up and identifies the oncoming player as a Rangers player. Clears puck, picks head up, makes aggressive move with stick, looks back at ref. No doubt. Should be a game or two. Unless there was a 2nd gunman. nossagog
Just talked with Uncle Gary, he's in the video editing room as we speak altering the video to show that its the Rangers player's stick that actually makes contact, and is going to retroactively assess a penalty to the Rangers on the play. By the way, I spun the wheel of justice several times, keeps coming up Hockey Play. notfondajane
I thought I heard there was no suspension! Don't shot I'm just the messenger!
Hose Head
He looked right at him and slashed right at his neck. That should definitely be a 1-2 game suspension for a deliberate slash.
Polaris922
If you read the explanation why, and watch the incident at game speed rather than the slow motion, it makes sense. Again should've been a double minor but agree no suspension. And considering some of the things let slide in the games it's just par for the course.
