brelic
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inqflyersreport/Timonen-day-to-day-Walker-put-on-waivers.html?ref=twitter.comDurable Kimmo Timonen, the cornerstone of the Flyers’ defense since Chris Pronger suffered a season-ending concussion, is officially listed as day to day with an apparent wrist injury.GM Paul Holmgren said Timonen would visit a doctor later on Friday. The Flyers placed Matt Walker on waivers, and will probably recall Erik Gustafsson from the Phantoms.Timonen, who has played in 223 consecutive games, did not practice on Friday.Entering Friday, Timonen was third among NHL defensemen in assists (23) and tied for 15th in plus-minus (plus-12). He is second on the Flyers, among all players, in assists and in plus-minus.Timonen, 36, appeared to get hit with a shot on the left hand/wrist area in the Winter Classic on Monday against the Rangers. He apparently re-aggravated the injury during Thursday’s wildly entertaining 5-4 win over Chicago, a game in which he went to the locker room in the second period and did not return. On Thursday, Holmgren said Gustafsson was still feeling a little bit of pain in his surgically repaired wrist when taking slapshots.Timonen has played in all 38 games this season, and he played in all 82 games the previous two seasons. The Flyers will play a home-and-home series with Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday. The Senators have won four straight.Like the Flyers, the Senators are winning despite getting subpar goaltending.Ottawa has a 3.27 goals-against average, which is 28th in the 30-team NHL; the Flyers are 23d, at 2.92. Despite struggling a la Ilya Bryzgalov, Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson (3.12 GAA, .901 save percentage) entered Friday tied for second in the league with 19 wins. He is coming off a 35-save performance in a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday.Breakaways: Claude Giroux entered Friday tied for the NHL lead with 48 points……Sean Couturier is fourth among NHL rookies at plus-8..…The Flyers are 9-6-2 at home, 14-5-2 on the road…..Detroit appears to be the frontrunner for next year’s Winter Classic. Spinorama
this isn't good for Walker and I guess we can forget the notion of the Flyers hoping another team will grab him. You waive a defenseman the same day you lose another top D-man for a period of time? His contract is up after this season right?

radoran
@Spinorama1 more year, I still can't believe we got this bum for Gagne. It's one of the things that happens when you give a guy a NTC/NMC and then tell him he's not producing up to the level you expect and the team wants you to go away so they can go younger. The guy with the NTC/NMC then has you over a barrell and you have to make the deal with a team he agrees to go to - and that team has little incentive to give you anything in return. Thus, you deal a solid 2-way forward who was an original draft pick for a pile of dingo's kidneys.
