Me either.  Honest!  :toast:

I don't understand why the Canadiens have to have a French coach. (To me, it's more than a language issue.) The players come from all over the world. Why can't the coaches?

The same reason the felt the need to fine a restaurant for having a 3 inch "Trip advisor" company sticker on their window.

And I say that having a Japanese father and French Quebecois Mother.

The online term "Grammar Nazi" has a real life counterpart in the OQLF, complete with police power to levy fines.

But I digress. My whole point is how much they shoot themselves in the foot by limiting their coaching choices to francophone. Réjean Tremblay blows up at them in the media anytime Napolean Desharnais is not in the top 6 or on the top PP.

I remain convinced that the Blue Jackets took Dubois 3rd overall this year over Puljujarvi because they want something from Montreal.

If there is one thing I hate about Canada, it is the fact that we tolerate having a political party with a foundation and base rooted in treason against Canada itself.

AMEN bro, AMEN....I feel the exact same way. It is most certainly treason.

Yeah, screw the Western Independence Party of Saskatchewan, the Western Canada Concept Party of British Columbia and the Alberta Freedom Party! #amirite? :hocky:

Wait, there's another one? :poke:

Democracy - the worst form of government except for all the others.

:dancing:

Democracy is a much better set up than Canada. It has a guaranteed system of checks and balances. Canada, a Socialism leaves the entire country at the beck and call of the party in power....assuming they have a majority govt....once they get that majority, they can do pretty well everything they want, as long as it stays within the perimeters of the Canada Act.

That's a Winston Churchill quote (actually quoting someone else, but it's usually attributed to him).

And Canada is a democracy. You vote for the party "in power".

If Trump wins the US election, for example, and has a majority in Congress, the "party in power" "can do pretty well everything they want."

Well, I tried some google searches, and it was pretty confusing. Most say, Canada employs Socialism programs, but is not per say a Socialism. Funny thing is, in high school, we were tested in People and Politics and if you answered that Canada was a Socialism, you got the question right....so gov't funded schools (at least way back in the 80's) said we were a Socialism.

I was under the impression that a Socialism was a country that had a strong central gov't and controlled gov't owned monopolies....eg, Petro Canada, owned by the Gov't of Canada...Canada Post, Air Canada etc etc.

Here is something that is odd, if we are indeed a Democracy, how is this possible?

" 80% of Cdns can NOT vote for a certain candidate and yet he/she can still be elected. simply because there are far too many political parties in Canada. IMO Canada needs to change the process, and have a primary election as the USA does, and eliminate the "also ran" parties from the final deciding vote. "

We have a real messed up way of voting. If I like a local MP or MPP, I must vote for the corresponding leader of that party....which is ridiculous.

"socialism" and "democracy" aren't mutually exclusive - large swaths of Europe are democracies with "socialist" aspects to their governments - and the presence of government-owned monopolies doesn't in and of itself make one "socialist" (see: Arabia, Saudi - monarchy (for example)). The US has a centrally-owned train system (Amtrak) and postal system (USPS).

Petro Canada merged with Suncor in 2009. Prior to that it was a Crown corporation organized under the auspices of the monarchy by an Act of Parliament.

The parliamentary system is a much different one from the US as well. You don't actually vote for "Justin Trudeau" for example unless you live in his district. You vote for the member of the party you want to support Trudeau being Prime Minister. If you like your MP, but don't like the leader of his/her party, ask yourself why you like someone who is pledged to support someone you don't.

What it is designed to do is prevent the sort of divided government that has paralyzed much of the US for the past six years. When the people elect a party to rule, they are given the opportunity to rule.

Again, "worst form of government except for all the others." :thumbsu:

Well, no team worth a damn will hire him again. How often do coaches quit mid contract?

He wasn't mid contract, his 3 year deal was over at the end of the season and they never officially resigned him.

His contract still had a year left on it. Quitting with 1 year left is still quitting in the middle contract. Unless you are going for the literal middle date of the contract

It's so hard to stick to hockey when there is no hockey. The Leafs haven't played since April. :(

What year was that?   I don't remember now.

.Once again, you prove yourself to be knowledgeable on almost any topic I can throw your way. You have a firm grasp of our election process. When you are hanging with your buddies, do they even bother to argue, or just surrender to the inevitable....ha ha.

Do you remember the show "House?"     Despite ending up being right nearly every single episode, his "friends" argued with him every single time.

I liked House, never seen all of them, but what I did see I enjoyed. You have to be willing to accept House's out of control ego as a starting point I guess....lol,.
