Parture
The 4 goals let in by the Oilers were a direct result of: 1) RNH not clearing the puck from the zone which he easily could have done; 2) Klefbom not taking his man at the blue line, but backing up way to far; 3) Letestu not clearing the puck which he easily could have done with an easy pass from Larsson; and 4) Benning not clearing the puck but getting tripped up.Solution: 1) get rid of Klefbom because he has played an integral role in the Oilers losing in all 3 games the Oilers lost; 2) Letestu was -21 last season, the worst on the team and is a very good predictor of how he will play this season; 3) Benning is simply not NHL material and he is a really slow skater; 4) Eberle is a great underperformer with very poor GF% skating with McDavid and he would only do worse on a lower line; and 5) Connor needs someone fast on his right, that person is Puljujärvi.Lucic-McD-Pulju Poul-RNH-Eberle Replacement Maroon-Drais-Kassian Caggiula-Lander-PitlickDavidson-Larsson Russell-Sekera Nurse-Gryba IF YOU THINK DRAISAITL is not getting any shots on net (0 shots last 2 games, 3 shots last 5 games) so he is not being utilized then place him to the right of RNH. Parture
Or could try this....Lucic-McD-Pulju Poul-RNH-DraisaitlMaroon-Caggiula-Eberle Pitlick-Lander-KassianLast season Eberle did well with Maroon at 64 GF%, terrible with McD at 55%, and terrible with Draisaitl at 33%. Zack does well with Draisaitl at 60%. Last season Pouliot did well with Draisaitl at 60%. RNH at 63% does well with Draisaitl. RNH can cheat on the faceoffs and get replaced by Draisaitl, lol
hf101
Yes, I'm in agreement that Eberle needs to come off the top line. But there is more to this win by the Rangers. The Rangers won a lot of puck battles, they swarm and they support each other very well. Edmonton's forwards are much too slow on the back check. They need to play a full 60 minutes. The Rangers are a good team, they won the majority of face - offs. They put up more shots on Talbot than what Edmonton did on Lundqvist. They earn their wins. Edmonton's struggles on defense isn't solved by the greatness of McDavid, that turnaround doesn't happen overnight. You also have to figure right now that Edmonton won't win many games unless McDavid scores, and in this one he didn't.
Parture
The 4 goals let in were easily avoidable against NYR. 1) RNH could have passed it to the other side. 2) Klefbom could have taken his man at the blue line on the rush instead of backing up all the way to the goalie. Klefbom has been integral in all 3 games the Oilers lost. 3) Letestu easily could have cleared the puck from the pass from Larsson, but failed to do so. 4) Benning royally screwed up. I don't understand why McLellan plays him (he's slow) and not Gryba. McLellan is as much to blame as anyone especially since the lines he has created are all wrong (he doesn't adhere to GF% and is not a numbers guy). The line should be... Lucic-McD-Pulju (McD needs Pulju's speed on the right that Eberle doesn't have) Poul-RNH-Drais (Drais will get shots on net now) Maroon-Lander-Kassian (two large players protecting a good faceoff man Lander) Pitlick-Letestu-Slepy (Eberle has no value to the Oilers with his -56 career on his way to -100; Trade Eberle pronto) Davidson-Larsson Russell-Sekera Nurse-Gryba I have been complaining about Eberle for years. He is in large part why the Oilers suck so bad. When it comes to Eberle +/- does matter for he is always on the best lines. If he can't get positive on the best lines then what is he good for? And he certainly won't get better on lower lines. Eberle was on the ice for all 5 goals against the Oilers vs. NYR.
