Bolts and Wings among leagues best rivals- if only

Last night

the Wings and Lightning played another spirited match, a bloody hard hitting game where Steve Ott destroyed Cedric Paquette, where Brian Boyle received seventeen minutes worth of penalties in retaliation, where Stamkos limped off the ice after a collision with Gus Nyquist who never physically touches anyone, where Darren Helm Detroit Red Wings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning - November 15, 2016was injured in a nasty collision with Nesterov, where Braydon Coburn left with an injury after blocking a shot although he returned later. Paquette stayed in although a serious bruise and welt were clear on his forehead.

Nasty game, my kind of hockey, two teams that clearly not only do not like each other but despise each other may not quite be a strong enough way of expressing it. It could turn into one of the games best rivalries.

Expect for one thing: The Lightning always win. Always.

Two seasons in a row the Bolts have knocked the Wings out in the first round with relative ease, and the regular season has not been any better. So far this season Tampa has now won the first two meetings, in the season opener and again last night.

The nastiness is there to be sure. It is a series that I always circle on the calendar every year, knowing the two teams bring out the best and worst in each other. But it would be one hell of a lot more fun if the outcome would ever be in doubt.
