The point is that if MacDonald doesn't play 40 games, the Flyers have to expose someone else. If he plays 40 games, then the Flyers don't as he would become the one of term exposed. That is all the 40 games people are saying and Mangioni is using the irrelevant 1-2 year thing to imply that is wrong. It's not. MacDonald is the best option of those who we would have to hurry to make exposure eligible. He lists idiocy like Alt (he says "if" he gets healthy. He's not. And time's a wastin'). Plus, there is the possibility that if Vegas is trying to reach the cap floor--I don't think this will actually be an issue--that they would take an at least okay defenseman to suit this purpose. So, yes, simply put: MacDonald is in the lineup to try to reach the 40 goal threshhold. In typical Philly luck, he will go down to season-ending injury in his 38th game.
