Last night, I'm watching a grandson's game.  I love him and I'm proud of him.  He's the heart of his high school team.   Runs the power play, and gets double shifted.  

 

So, opposing teams target him.  He's always dodging checks.

 

But, yesterday, a kid nailed him as he skated around his net.  Just blasted him.  A clean check.  But, my pal lies there on the ice.  He doesn't embellish and is obviously hurt.  

 

I know the kid who hit him.  I give him a wave as he skates off at the end of the period so that he might not feel bad.

 

My son calls me from the hospital.  I felt so bad that I didn't really comprehend the details.

 

I don't picture the 6' 2" inch, 190 pounder, I see the little kid climbing on my lap with his easy reader book.

 

I'll keep on watching hockey, but I've had my fill of seeing hurt kids,
