DaGreatGazoo
The Boston Bruins fired head coach Claude Julien on Tuesday and announced that assistant Coach Bruce Cassidy will take over on an interim basis. Julien had led the Bruins to a 26-23-6 record for 58 points through 55 games this season. Julien had been the longest tenured active head coach in the NHL, as he was in his 10th season with the Bruins. Julien is the fourth coach to be fired by an NHL team this season, joining Ken Hitchcock (St. Louis Blues), Gerard Gallant (Florida Panthers) and Jack Capuano (New York Islanders). yave1964
He will land on his feet somewhere in all likelihood because he is a solid X and O coach. Way past time for this in Boston though, the team has been stagnant and in desperate need of something and you cannot fire twenty players as the old saying goes. Not sure what to think of Cassidy however. He has certainly paid his dues after a year and change of coaching the Capitals a little over a decade ago he has more or less been with the Bruins ever since, an assistant to Julien followed by four years of successfully coaching the Providence Bruins in the AHL and then returning to the big club as an assistant this season as the clear heir apparent to Julien. He has certainly paid his dues and is a conservative choice to finish out the year.
