Howie58 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Greetings: I saw this article earlier today: http://www.tsn.ca/the-knight-watch-1.614929 I was unsure if it meant there have already been deals formalized (but unannounced) or if we have deals in the making that will be put in place later this summer. Either way, it puts the expansion in a different light. I have been thinking that McPhee and Company have been passive players waiting for the draft, with an eye to review of personnel on existing teams. This suggests a more active role. Perhaps the head scratch deal with Neuvy has deeper roots than we imagine. Peace, Howie

Very strange i say. All i hope is that Hextall has a solid plan and sticks to it. That is why i think Mason hasn't signed yet...Hextall has a plan for him and we will be kept in the dark about him till he sees fit. I'm cool with it...especially with the handshake deals going on and leaving it up to the teams to report it...false reports will be used a lot here i think.
Howie58 Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 Occam: Agreed there is going to be some interesting gaming. These folks have an interesting mission and have a salary cap and floor to deal with. I can't imagine the permutations. Yikes...
LegionOfDoom Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 That's the thing with premature articles the likes of "Neuvy was signed! Bye bye Mason" are so dumb. in fact if I was Neuvy, I'd be worried. Hextall played it smart and put himself in a solid position of not going into the summer with no goalies signed, and having to scramble to overpay for a starter and possible backup with extended years. He didn't sign another goalie to have as an exposed goalie on the trade deadline. And he gave Neuvy a bump in pay to not make him an attractive choice to choose and not be completely ridiculous high and long either. Same as Belles. Now he has a position of strength in negotiations with UFAs and has added a 2C which should make our lines click better and have more options on the attack.

They have to take 30 players. Obviously they can't all be NHLers, but I think they're going to have to take a few guys with more than league minimum contracts.

I wouldn't be surprised if Neuvy wasn't aware of a handshake deal and had been a part of it. Sign with us now for a raise and McPhee will draft you vs. take your chances in the UFA market and force McPhee to draft his goalies elsewhere (he HAS to draft goalies). I'm not saying I think that's what happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if Neuvy is looking into daycare options in Vegas.

Unless that handshake deal was to him by Hextall....saying he WOULDN'T expose him if he signed now. He could be planning on rolling the dice and signing Stolie and exposing him. And Lyon is Stolie's insurance policy in case that plan blows up in his face. Then you could have Lyon and Merrick Madsen as the #1 and #2 in LV. You never know Hexy keeps his plans close to the vest.
AJgoal Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 He could also leave Stolarz unsigned. Vegas can only pick 10 players that are RFA or UFA. I don't know that Stolarz (or Cousins or Laughton) will be in the top 10 free agents available to Vegas.

Yeah i wouldn't make sense to spend 3 years nurturing someone in your farm system to get them right up to where they are ready to get some time in the big leagues only to give them away to another club.... ...unless the front office don't think they ever be anything of value or he is part of some sort of handshake deal for insert here whatever. So i would expose Neuvy all day...
Howie58 Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Bob McKenzie spoke at length about this on last night's Boston-Detroit lead-in. Apparently McPhee is accumulating draft picks via "hands off" deals (I take it handshake but soon to be actual) with other GMs. The other type of deal will be high-priced end-of-contract packages with salary pay to help Vegas to the cap while relieving the "sender." Fun, fun, fun!
DaGreatGazoo Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 When is Pronger's contract up? Wonder if AZ will trade that to LV for something. Big cap hit to help reach floor. Yea. I'm too lazy to look it up right now.
RJ8812 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 LV aint picking Stolarz. His .900 SA% in the AHL isn't that appealing
