SpikeDDS Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 So Nyke and Tats are on a tear (excepting that dreadful Boston game). Tats scores twice and Nyke with 3 more assists, both playing very solid games. WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL SEASON??!! Just had to vent. That is all!

Since the consensus is that this season is all but lost!
WordsOfWisdom Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 An NHL Playoff Failure has occurred. ERROR: Could not find team: Detroit Red Wings Abort. Retry. Fail?

Retry. Fail? Not exactly true. The frustrating part is that every so often, you see what the team COULD be if only they could do it consistently. The Chicago game, for example. We played a very solid game. And then there is tonight against the Rangers. Boston the other night. Good grief! Doesn't even look like the same team! Zetterberg said it perfectly the other night after the Chicago game: "When we play like we did tonight, good things happen, and it shows what we can do. The frustrating part is that we don't play like this enough. And when we don't, we stink!" This is us.
yave1964 Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 What an awful game, the team was standing around most of the night waiting as if they were just going through the motions. 2 goals in 30 something seconds, a shorty by McDonough, just a forgettable game in a forgettable season.
WingNut722 Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 As most of you, I resigned myself to being able to watch more baseball this spring than hockey, but that game against the Blackhawks gave me some hope that this team would go down swinging. Then I watched yesterday. We had a rare stretch of four consecutive games against Original Six teams and went 1-3-0 during that stretch and were outscored 15-8. The next three games offer us another rare opportunity to play against the lowest two teams in the League (2 Colorado, 1 Arizona). The announcers at yesterday's game kept talking about "Red Wings Culture" and how its important to maintain that culture despite the position in the standings. That means playing hard for every point. Its difficult to think you're going to be out of the playoffs when the last 25 teams before you made it. The veterans are feeling a deep sense of loss, and the rookies are wondering if they could have been better. Still, as is written on the locker room wall at the Joe "For those to whom much is given, much is required." That means taking it all the way to the end, just like they would in a previous season. Playing well in these next three games should not be considered beating up on the cellar dwellers, but they should be stepping stones as they approach the next few. Get back to basics.

The video is no longer available, but I remember several years ago, like 4-5 years, Mike Babcock was asked in a PC what he thinks about maintaining a culture of winning. This was particularly asked as we were down to the Predators (IIRC) in our playoff series, and the reporter was wondering what he says to players as the team starts to lose more often. His response was something like this: "Oh, these kinds of questions aren't things I think a lot about, but...When you pull on that sweater, you owe it to the guys like Mr. Howe, Mr. Lindsay, and all the guys who came before you, to compete like a Red Wing. You can't always be expected to win like a Red Wing, because winning takes more than you. It takes talent, and health, and chemistry, and luck and a whole bunch of other things in order to be able to win. But to compete like a Red Wing means to put forth the effort to move yourself towards playing to your potential out of respect for the game, the guys who came before you, your teammates, and yourself, obviously. Anything else?" <silence> Thank you. <PC over> I expect the players to compete like Red Wings. When they do, they can win games and even if they don't, they can still feel good about themselves. Too many times this year, they just haven't competed like Red Wings. That is the culture which must be eliminated and replaced.

And since you indicated that the video is (conveniently) no longer available, we'll never know, now will we...?
