Question about legality of goal and puck crossing line

I know that the puck has to entirely cross the goal line in the net to count as a goal, does that include a case where the puck is standing vertically on end, parallel to the goal line but just a sliver over it, but when it falls or settles to the ice it would be touching the line?

I guess I'm asking, does the puck need to settle or be in a position to land flat entirely over the goal line to count or can it count by standing on end parallel to the line but a sliver over it, but then it touches the line when it settles flat? Sorry for being a noob.

I understand that the NHL has had controversy on some of these kind of "goals" or "no goals", because it can be tough to tell. I just want the official ruling on my scenario and how it would be called, thanks!

As a Flyer fan, I know nought of this "goal" thing you're talking about. But theoretically, I think the answer is Yes. Across is across. Any white space.

Ahahaha thanks man, I never thought to ask before because I felt foolish. I got it confirmed on Reddit for good measure, so yes, it's a goal!

My buddy originally asked me this, and I said it was a goal, but it nagged at me so I had to come and ask.

The orientation of the puck doesn't matter.  As @Podein25 stated, across is across.

The controversy usually comes in when you can't see the puck clearly from the many different camera angles.

Yes indeed, just the way he had posed the question to me (my friend) behooved me to ask. I asked a question about goalie interference on his behalf on here, but he's exceeded his quota now, haha. I'm well beyond these meager questions, what with my hideously complex delayed offside question, haha. Thanks again for asking your NHL ref friend about that, if you do get around to it.

I felt so dumb for asking this as a seasoned hockey fan. Like I said, it was in part because my buddy asked me, and he likes confirming things, but I still hang my head in shame. Oh well, you guys don't seem the least bit judgemental.
