hf101
According to Adrian Dater, there is no deal and talks have stalled between the Avalanche and the University of Denver's captain Will Butchner. The Hobey Baker award winner can choose where he wants to play as a free agent after August 15. Butchner was a 5th round pick in the 2013 NHL draft and his team won the NCAA tournament Things haven’t gone well for Colorado this season since Roy abruptly resigned last August and nothing appears to be changing. After a disastrous season, the last place Aves dropped 3 places in the NHL draft from the first overall pick down to fourth. While signing Butchner is a big concern, Sakic still has other major concerns to move this franchise forward. It will be interesting to see what is up here as Colorado definitely could use this young defenseman on their blueline.

Maybe he wants to test the market....maybe he wants to be closer to home...the Wild, Blackhawks and Wings would be closer options. Just saying.
