Yeah, I wish him well.  I'm not sure I understand the way he was treated at times in Philly, but I'm glad he was able to turn it into a paycheck.

EDIT:  Wait, that's actually a pay cut for him, isn't it?

Well, there is quite a bit of good news for MDZ here:

He WON'T be subjected to the temptations that a city like Vegas would project onto him. I made that lil commentary on another thread.

Also, while the Canucks won't resemble anything CLOSE to being orcas (more like bottom feeding catfish), if MDZ does really well on a bad team, he may find himself playing for a contender at the trade deadline.

MDZ seems like a player prone to extremes.

He either looks every bit the part of a professional hockey player with the skills to match, or he looks like some guy who would rather be stalking has-been porn stars because "He wants to know what all the fuss is about"  ;)

Seriously...the guy has a nice skillset.

He just needs to have his head on straight.

Be a bright spot on an otherwise dim team, Mike, and you could be playing for the Cup elsewhere soon enough.

Of course, if Benning doesn't realize a good MDZ would be worth some assets at the deadline (very REAL possibility), then he will be sunk along with the SS British Columbia for the entire year.

I do.

He was not to good in his own end.

What i don't understand was to hold him accountable and let Streit play whom if you thought MDZ was bad just Streit he was waaaay worse.

At least MDZ was still slightly young....Streit was old as dirt and still couldn't play defense.

Oh well wish him well to he was worth the risk.

Well, yeah, but I didn't think this was reason for punishment on the Flyers.  I thought it was prerequisite to playing on the Flyers.

Thing with MDZ though, is that he NEVER WAS a good defensive defenseman.

Sure, by its very nature, his position demand he play D (and he does), but nearly as well as even a middling defensive type player.

He is all about contributing to the offense from the blue line and helping in the quick transitioning game.

While every coach and GM would like to have players of his ilk play defense, they will live with his gaffes on coverage.......so long as he has significant contributions on offense.

THAT is what landed him in the doghouse....his inability to consistently deliver on offense, which in turn magnified his deficiencies on defense.

Guarantee you that if he were produce offensively more than he did (and sprinkle in a bit of D now and again), he wouldn't be criticized so heavily.

Take a look at former NHL defenseman Dan Boyle, formerly of the Lightning and Sharks.

That is a guy who had a nose for offense and the transition game. Not unlike MDZ. And the two were built about the same too.

Boyle's overall defensive game left MUCH to be desired....but because he was such a big contributor on offense, coaches lived with his sub par defense.

Boyle was exposed late in his career when he could no longer play offense the way he used to and all he had to rely on was his almost non existent defensive play.

Not making excuses for MDZ at all. He IS a defenseman and thus, coaches should expect him to be able to play his position somewhat.

But you don't have a guy like MDZ on your blue line for his defense.

You have him there because, at his best, he is almost like a 4th forward and SHOULD be a force on the PP especially.

If he can do that (and get over Lisa Ann....ok, ok...I'll stop with that...lmao) with Vancouver, a contender will call Benning about him at the trade deadline.

MDZ just better hope Benning didn't leave his cell phone in the pockets of his good pair of pants which are in the cleaners....

Of course for some it is a chance to play on the top pair (looking at you Mcdud!)...
