FriendlyGuitarist
EDMONTON — Veteran defenceman Andrew Ference, who won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011, has announced his retirement from professional hockey after 16 NHL seasons. Full story: Here I remember his days as a Calgary Flame. I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement!
JR Ewing
Ference was interviewed on Bob Stauffer's show this week, and shared his feelings on buying in, being there for your teammates, and makes reference to guys who are no longer Oilers: "I think it just boils down to just caring. You really do care about your team and the jersey that you're pulling on, and you have that pride of wanting the people watching you to be proud that they're wearing the jersey. And you can look across the dressing room and know that the guy across the dressing room cares as much as you do, and will be there for you at every single turn. Oilers fans saw that in the playoffs. Peter brings those kind of people in, and people that don't buy in, they're gone. Everybody in the NHL is strong, and everybody works out and is fast, and you have those physical aspects. But not everybody just fully buys in to a team plan, or fully buys in to sacrificing their personal stuff for the good of the team. And that's the attitude side of it that Boston had and you can see that a lot of good playoff teams have. They just really care about each other, and they care about the team. And when you do that in a sport like ours that can be pretty violent, it can bring out that toughness, because you're fighting for what you believe in, and it's more than just looking out for yourself. That's happening here for sure, because of - not only the mantra that's being put down from the top - but because of the people that Peter is bringing in and getting rid of as well." https://omny.fm/shows/oilers-now-with-bob-stauffer/7-13-17-oilers-now-seg-4-andrew-ference
