Goodbye Ol' Friend.....(VandeVelde)

I'm just glad I never have to type that damn name again!....per Meltzer,

"As for VandeVelde's status, the 30-year-old defensive forward may have to settle for a tryout arrangement at an NHL camp or an AHL deal if he cannot get an NHL contract over the summer. Although a favorite of current Flyers and former UND head coach Dave Hakstol as well as Flyers predecessor coach Craig Berube, VandeVelde's time with the Flyers appears to be at an end after appearing in 232 games for Philly over the past three seasons plus an additional 18 games back in 2013-14. There is already an overflow of forwards set to vie for roster spots come September. "

Meltzer has spoken. Some would argue you don't get to play 232 games in the NHL (in three seasons) by sucking......Others would see a wasted roster spot that could be used to develop a young prospect.

Agreed the slot should go elsewhere. Our fourth line wasn't netting (literally) much for the team.  I suspect he ends up in the AHL somewhere.  Being defensively responsible isn't good enough.

Best,

Howie

What's more amazing? That a guy who couldn't crack Edmonton's roster when they were the worst team in the NHL for several years in a row can't find a NHL gig or that the Flyers dressed him for 81 straight games last season?

Adios, roster filler.

Yes. Sad....very sad. But those days are over.

Plenty of time for the Flyers to offer him a tryout contract....

Logistically, there is no room for him.  Plus, he stinks.

If not in the AHL, he will end up playing in Europe.

Still a slight chance he becomes a Flyer if he doesn't sign in Ott.  Per Hextall:

Quote

"We'll continue to kind of see what's out there and monitor it. The other thing is, with tryouts around the league, everybody keeps an eye on them, too, because most tryouts don't get signed. So you try to have your scouts keep an eye on guys who are out there. So, if I had to bet right now, I'd say we're probably not going to have a tryout but that's not 100 percent," Hextall said.

If there is room for him come the start of the season, it means something went horribly wrong with training camp.

Yeah, the ice opened up and swallowed the entire organization except Hakstol.

Doesn't it always go wrong? 🤔 after all it's the Flyers MO for the last couple of years! 🏳
