B21
The only silver lining from a 10-1 drubbing by the Hawks is that they didn't score 11.

TropicalFruitGirl26
I mentioned this to Rux in game chat yesterday, but Pittsburgh is so used to having the golden touch when it comes to signing players and having them perform above and beyond for them... I think this time, however, they will find Niemi to be the anti-Midas Christ and he will NOT conform to being a championship player in even the Penguins' system. Oh, and Mike Sullivan "We just didn't play well" Thank you Mike, we never would have guessed.......

Yeah, that was really a head-scratcher when it was done. And I think every hockey fan everywhere thought so. I mean, I'm sure some Pens fans were "well, hope for the best" or similar, but it really was an odd signing given his clearly poor history. I said this in the other thread. With Murray being an injury threat, I get wanting a veteran backup/tandem-type to work 30 games or so. And to run for awhile when Murray inevitably gets hurt. And they were also limited by what they wanted to spend on the position given their other constraints and upcoming priorities. I get all that. Maybe they didn't have the options I think, but I think they probably could have done better. @B21 , do you figure they were really limited to $700k? I'm thinking that if they were and really wanted a vet, then maybe they really didn't have a lot of options. It's a shame they couldn't at least have done a Bernier for the money he signed in Colorado for. I really think they're going to have to ride Murray, but that increases the chances of an injury issue come playoffs.
mojo1917
Pens are too good 1-6 and top 4 for this hangover to last. I do think the departure of Bonino will be a problem. He is was the perfect player to compliment 71 and 87. He played the tough minutes and was a bastard in all the best ways to play against. Until they find the next Staal / Bonino / ? though I think they can be had. Maybe the guy from W/B grows into the role...for my money though Nick Bonino was the secret ingredient in the championship sauce.
mojo1917
@B21 your comment reminds me of the great golf joke, Q: how on earth did you make 8 on that hole ? A: I missed an eight-footer for 7.

A 4-0 win over the Preds in the bag. Maybe all is right in the world now.

If Niemi falters, Jarry is always a possibility. There is always the trade route, too.
