The Stars at night.....

Recommended Posts

Nice video tribute to Trevor Daley who played almost 800 games for the Stars, he seemed genuinely touched and it felt real, he is well loved in Big D.

Danny Dekeyser left the game after blocking a shot that appeared to hit him just above the ankle, it looked very painful, a slapshot from fifteen feet away. Ouch. What sucks the most with that is he and Daley seem to have developed some chemistry and his confidence level is higher than last year. Hopefully it is only for a game or two. Mike Green had two assists giving him 6 in the first 3 games, most important the Wings first goal, scored by Abby was a power play tally, we went three months last year at one point without a power play goal on the road. Frk helps and hopefully a healthy Abdelkader does as well.

Zetterberg was beside himself with frustration over being tossed from the faceoff circle four times last night with the new rules for body positioning still being ironed out. In the first period alone the Stars won 18 of 22 faceoffs. Z lost three in a row late in the game and admitted that the refs were in his head.

Ken Hitchcock tied Al Arbour for third all time in coaching wins with the victory, trailing only Joel Quenneville and the immortal Scotty Bowman.

Petr Mrazek played in net for the first time this season and wasn't bad, the first two Dallas goals hit the post and bounced in, kind of fluky. The third goal however by former Wings prospect Mattias Janmark (who we gave away for 8 games of Eric Cole) badly beat Nick Jensen who gave up on the play handing him off to a forward, kind of flicked in on net from an impossible angle and Mrazek simply misplayed it allowing it to go in with what was really the game. The final was 4-2 but Hanzal scored an empty netter with a couple of seconds to go so the Janmark goal was the backbreaker and pretty much all they talked about after the game save for faceoff officiating and the forechecking of the stars. Mrazek was not that bad really, a couple of clangers that went in but oh my God was that one by Janmark a softie. He was almost inconsolable talking about it after even. On the video above it is at around the 3:40 mark. One bad play determined the game in spite of Hitchocks team swarming us for the first two periods. Mrazek did make a couple of stand on his head saves especially on Star power plays to keep it close.

Speaking of Ken Hitchcock it is plain that he has his stamp on this club already, high percentage of faceoff wins and absolutely relentless pressure when the opponent has the puck. For the first two periods especially every time a Wing touched the puck he was cut off or swarmed and forced to retreat or pass it away. For two periods we really had no answer it was not until the third that we got some pushback.

Day off today followed by 2 games in 2 nights in the desert, on in Arizona and one in Nevada. Still feels strange to say.
