Image result for andrew hammond  It seems like forever ago that Andrew Hammond burst upon the scene out of nowhere going 20-1-2 to lead a furious rush down the stretch by the Senators towards an improbable playoff run. Anderson was back and healthy for the postseason but there was no doubt who the team MVP was as they made the postseason, even winning a fun series against the Canadiens along the way. People wondered if he would force Anderson out of town or if they would go with a two headed monster in net. It is hard to believe that was only the 2014-15 season. For Hammond it must seem to have been a lifetime ago.

Hammond seems to have used up every bit of magic that he had in his pads and his glove in that magical run, the following year as the backup he went 7-11-4 before being shipped to the AHL. And then last year when Anderson left the team to be with his wife who was diagnosed with cancer the biggest ignominy of all, instead of being recalled they claimed Mike Condon off waivers and Hammond was left in Birmingham as Condon went on his own magical run and Hammond was forgotten. He was recalled a few times as the backup but hardly saw the ice going 0-2 as a starter and getting mop up duty in a few other games until Anderson returned and he was shipped out again.

Now, he was included in the deal to Colorado as part of the payment for Duchene, a chance to start over with an organization that needs an overhaul. Potentially a very good landing spot for a guy like Hammond as Bernier has been ineffective and Varlamov has a history of breaking down. He had to be thrilled.

NOT SO FAST. HIT THE BREAKS.

Yesterday it was announced that Hammond while technically a part of the Avalanche organization would be on 'loan' to the Belleville Senators in the AHL and would remain with the team in net because the Avalanche have no room in the organization for the goalie whom they just added. In San Antonio they have Ville Husso splitting time with Spencer Martin, not exactly prospects believe me.

So his old team does not want him, his new team does not want him and he will be playing in Belleville while Colorado looks to flip him to another organization. He has to be wondering if he sold his soul in that magical run and if since then he has died and gone to Hell.

Poor guy.

Hard to believe that with some of the clownstock passing themselves off as NHL goalies AND the fact that there are many goalie starved teams, that there isn't a market for a slightly used, low mileage striped clad netminder.............and look, he will EVEN download the app if it will help his goaltending too!

I assume this was sarcasm since that crappy team in Denver is 3rd in their division and 7th in the western conference.

It was. They've come a long way since the end of last season.
