yave1964
2-0 Calgary early in the third, Sebastian Aho entered the offensive zone and went towards the net with his head down and was absolutely DESTROYED by Mark Giordano. Aho went flying across the ice and had to be helped off limping badly after a knee on knee collision and a shoulder tot he chin. Gio was given a ten minute misconduct and got into a fight with Justin Williams with Gio getting in all three hits. The question is should Gio be suspended? Watching the video, it is plain that Aho had his head down after passing the first defender, was looking the goalie down and was paying zero attention as Giordano came towards him. Giordano wasn't quite stationary but most of the motion was Aho flying in, IMHO Giordano was more run into by Aho than the other way around. I personally just do not see anything that deserved being tossed out let alone suspended, good hard clean hit on a moron who came in on net a million miles an hour staring down the goalie and forgetting that there might be someone else on the ice. Loved the hit, hope that Aho is okay, but IMHO it comes down to Aho needs to accept the blame for the collision. But then Kronwall in his prime was my favorite player of the past two decades. Anyone else?
hf101
I don't really see where the league would even entertain the idea for a suspension for this hit as the only thing Giordano did was brace himself for a collision with Aho. He has to be allowed to defend the play. A game misconduct was too much of a penalty for this hit. AHO - learn to keep your head UP.
flyercanuck
I don't get why Giordano has to fight or why he'd be penalized for Aho being really dumb. Skate through there with your head down? Yaaa....that's what you'll get.
yave1964
@flyercanuck @hf101 Someone with a bit of reason took a look at the tape and decided that the hit was more Aho skating with his head down and running into a brick wall, no disciplinary action. Good to see a good clean hard hit not punished by the league. Hell the way they call it on the ice right now Peggy Fleming could play.
hf101
It really is too bad for the Hurricanes and Aho as he was having a nice scoring streak going these last few weeks, I'm sure he won't make that same mistake twice. Hopefully, Aho recovers quickly.
