MacKinnon has turned into one of the games best this year but unless they are going to allow Varlamov and Bernier to play at the same time I just cannot see the 'Lanche winning a single game of this series.

Avs played well down the stretch to get into the playoffs.  However, beating the Blues is one thing....beating the Preds is totally different.  Preds will win this series, but I will give the Avs 1 victory at home.

This match up, at least on paper, may be one of the more lopsided ones in the playoffs.....and it would be lopsided in favor of the Predators.

I am not saying this to belittle the Avs or to bring up their recent past of futility in the league, but just being real.

The Nashville Predators are legit Stanley Cup contenders, and some might even peg them as THE favorites.

They don't seem fazed at all by the pressure of being number one and have all the facets of a championship contender covered well.

Goaltending, defense, scoring from forwards, scoring from defensemen, special teams, experience, hunger, and they DO have home ice, where they went 28-9-4 this season.

Oh yea...and the Preds also swept the season series from Colorado 4-0.

Does this mean the Avs are gonna just 'mail this in', call it a good season because they made the playoffs and come back looking for more next year?

Absolutely not.

Avs will be game, they are gonna play like THEY believe they are Stanley Cup contenders.

But their reality is, they are a one line team.

Get past Nathan Mackinnon-Mikko Raantanen-Gabriel Landeskog, and the rest of the forwards will be hard pressed to come up with all the necessary goals needed to win games....especially given that the Preds have 3 maybe 4 lines they can roll out and expect production out of.

That said, that MacKinnon line, if they escape containment, CAN be dynamic and deadly, plus the Avalanche do have a good PP and a pretty decent PK.

It is for those reasons I am giving the Avs a game in this series, and figure they may play others pretty close even in a loss, but may get blown out in one of them.

Preds in 5. Would like to see them again in the SCF kicking the hell out of whoever is coming in out of the East (as long as it isn't the Flyers).

ps. It's not going to be the Flyers.

pps. Not this year anyway.

  • 2 weeks later...

If Colorado goes on to lose this game 1-0, losing on a reversed call on what looked like a distinct kicking motion by Bonino is tough. Especially tough is the fact that they overturned the no goal call.

How about those Avs! :avalanche:

And how about that MacKinnon! Discipline and

movement that would have made Kopitar :blushing:

Wonder if M's display's online... Not yet on YouTube anyhoo.

:dancing: But that's the kind of smooth operator that I believe "Shah-day"

was singin about! :cheer:
