Cinderella, the clock strikes midnight early. The Knights have been good but far from great down the stretch, the Kings are a veteran team who have been here before. 5 quick games.

The clock has not yet struck midnight on the Knights.  I think they make some noise and get by the Kings in the 1st Round.  MAF's cup winning playoff experience will get them by one round.  The Knights have should to be mortal at time, but I think they pull off one more surprise for this expansion team.  Whatever happens, they have made NHL history as an expansion team.

The Playoffs are here...! Gentlemen, start your aggressions...

As I look at how well Carter has played even not being at full strength,

and how well the Kings have done with him against the Knights & others,

I think LA wins in seven games.

And I'm sticking by this: no self-doubt like I got into after I called

Pens over Preds in last year's Cup.

In fact I won't back down from my prediction unless the Kings :kings:

win in less than seven or unless the Knights win. I'm willing

to back away from my boldness under those conditions. :D

Cheers @pilldoc and anyone else for creating and

facilitating these Playoff threads. :toast:

I'm wondering if I should start a new thread with this, but the 1 game suspension to Drew Doughty seems completely BS.  Sure call a penalty on the ice, but a suspension seems a bit much.

video:

Quote

This is how the NHL explained the suspension:

"Doughty delivers a high, forceful hit that makes Carrier's head the main point of contact on a hit where such head contact was avoidable. This is an illegal check to the head."

"The illegal check to the head rule does not take into account what the first point of contact is."

"The brunt of the impact of the hit is delivered to Carrier's head."

"The head contact on this hit is avoidable."

"Doughty takes a poor angle of approach that makes Carrier's head the main point of contact."

"While Carrier moves slightly toward the middle of the ice, he does not materially change the position of his body or head immediately prior to this hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head being the main point of contact."

"If Doughty wishes to deliver this check, he must take an angle of approach that hits through the core of Carrier rather than one that makes the head the main point of contact."

Might as well eliminate hitting completely...:bye:

Right call on the hit by Doughty, and a message sent by the league that they are going to suspend anyone who targets like this ever superstars. Kings now have a big uphill battle in game 2. Message sent.

Yup - agree. Clearly elevates into (i.e. - targets) the head. Could have easily taken the body.  That's a 2-gamer in the regular season. He's got to know better than that.

Where are you at @notfondajane?? Come get your medicine! 30 saves in a 1-0 victory. Come get your whuppin!

How many saves did he ACTUALLY MAKE? I'm guessing about 10 and those were probably by accident. The rest were made by his teammates!

By definition, if a puck is going to go into the net and the goalie keeps it out, he gets credit for a "save". So....30? :DancingGrape:

Did you notice that the Pens shut out the Flyers?

Yup. 24 saves. Most not of the difficult variety. He also had a 3-0 lead after 1 period. Fleury protected a 1-0 lead for 57 minutes.

Do you really want to go there? :hocky:

I don't think he made 30 saves! I sure that he was so out of position on the majority of the shots he faced that his dmen had to play goalkeeper! Unfortunately he received credit for a save that he didn't make! I'm  curious on how many saves he ACTUALLY made? We know it wasn't 30.

Puck headed for net. Puck hit goalie. Save. Not rocket science here.

Exactly a save is a save.

Quick was friggin amazing what a game he had but you won't hear much about it because they lost by one. Brown buries that empty net shot maybe there is a different outcome.

Would love love to have Quick on the Flyers.

Tired and bummed after just finishing watching

the Kings lose the longest game in their

franchise history. I must be both deranged and

dedicated to have stayed up this late. :D

It's incredible to scope such a goalie duel.

The Kings have got to put more shots on net though,

avail themselves when openings appear. Given

the unreal speed that Vegas can show in both directions,

LA repeatedly waiting around for the perfect pass, shot,

or whatever--won't cut it.

Put the puck on net when the chance presents itself! :playing-hockey-smiley-emoticon: <--That's the way!

As for Doughty: risking that makes no sense. I hope the Kings take cues

from overthinking their offense, from Doughty's suspension, and go on the

intelligent attack full throttle when things kick off in LA.

I've stayed up later to watch the Flyers 5 OT's.  lol.  But I couldn't stay up for this one.  Considering the Kings were without Doughty they played a great game.  They need scoring in games 3 and 4 at home.

Here is the OT winner which has kind of an amazing stat to it.

Apparently, Haula who wears #56,      scored on the 56th shot of the game and it was his #56th goal of his NHL career.

@hf101 Five OT's?! Holy smokin barbecues that's commitment!

LA did indeed do well sans Doughty. Speaking of him I find myself

not liking his comment that there's no way the Golden Knights

will finish higher than the Kings by the time the postseason concludes.

No need to inspire further a team that's already chippy given

almost nobody, except a couple Hockey Forums dot Net peeps,

thought they'd be competitive in their inaugural year. They're

not only that but they're in the playoffs and skate as though

they have Red Bull I-V's in their arms.

The only goal the Kings :kings: have so far scored came from a

weird bounce that Fleury didn't see. :hithead: Vegas :59474cfb820e2_GoldenKnightssm: isn't

lighting up the scoreboard either. So maybe scoring for my

team opens up when they're back home. They still have to

win at least one in Sin City. Which'd also be a great moniker

for other cities now that my brain gets crankin... :anidea:

That "56" thing = weird. Indicates hockey gods may be

intervening in this one. Which, naturally, isn't O k if it's

for VGK, but would work just fine for the King faithful. :)
