Reports: Couturier Reinjured Knee

French media outlets Journal dé Montreal and TVA Sports reported on Tuesday night that Flyers center Sean Couturier recently reinjured his right knee in an offseason hockey game. The newspaper stated that Couturier has returned to Philadelphia to meet with Flyers team doctors.

According to the JdM report, Couturier suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee, the same injury and the same knee the Flyers' first-line center injured at practice during the 2018 playoffs in a collision with teammate Radko Gudas. This time, Couturier was playing in the Boot Camp Tournament in Quebec City two weeks ago and reinjured his knee on a non-contact play, making a routine move on the ice.

Surgery was not required after the initial injury, nor it is expected to be necessary now according to the Journal dé Montreal report by journalist Jonathan Bernier. However, the typical recovery course of about six weeks leaves Couturier's status for the start of training camp and the preseason up in the air.

The Flyers have not, as yet, commented on the report.

Saw that this morning too.

He will probably miss (some of) camp but could be ready for the beginning of the season.

The distressing thing to me is that it was on a non-contact play. Kind of a major setback and also hope it doesn't become a chronic issue.

Found another article on it.

Sounds like someone wasn't fully ready for an injury like that and it was non contact...stability sounds like it was still an issue.

Surrounding muscles were not fully strong enough.

Pushing it before he should have.

But i guess he got the go ahead from the training staff...i guess...which would explain it.

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that center Sean Couturier suffered a "lower-body injury" in a charity game in Quebec on August 10. Couturier will miss approximately four weeks. The first on-ice day of training camp is slated for Sept. 14.

Hextall said that the injury was "in a different spot" than the right knee medial collateral ligament tear he suffered in a practice-day collision with teammate Radko Gudas in April. It was a non-contact injury on a routine play as Couturier went after a rebound at the net.

No surgery is required. During the first half of training camp, Couturier will participate in drills on a limited basis. He will not be involved in any battle/contact drills and will be held out of the early preseason games. He is expected be 100 percent by the latter half of camp, participating in all drills and being available to play in the final few exhibition games before opening night.

Hextall said that Couturier will wear a knee brace when he returns to the ice. The GM said that he does not believe that the Selke Trophy finalist is now at greater risk for knee issues but said the organization recommends knee braces for all players and that Couturier shouldn't have any issues with playing with one.

Let's hope this is all it is and everyone can move on soon.

I'd be more worried if the crazy SOB hadn't played even more insanely and scored a hat trick with the MCL tear against the Penguins.

Hopefully the knee brace helps (should have friggin' had one on Sam Morin damn it, but I assume they will now!)

no matter what... when he does return to limited drills, Gudas is on the stationary bike at all times when Coots is on the ice.

Chances are good the muscles were too strong for the ligament -Which should have easily been fully healed by now, but maybe this is the result of a summer of training that just started too soon.
