Wild Message Board Memories...

Recommended Posts

I know a lot of us are here because of the old Wild.com message boards.  MNSOTA is working on tribute / eulogy article.  Not to get too personal, but my uncle died a little over a week ago and at his funeral (which I could not attend) they had kind of an open mic session where people could share their memories.

I thought this might be a good place to do so here.  We will put some of these in the article...we will have this article finished by Friday (and of course we'll post it here).

What are your favorite memories of the old wild.com message boards?

Best thing I can say is the Comradarie was great especially among the regulars and just being able to relax and have fun talking about Hockey or food or death of appliances etc. I feel it was a place that you could just come to even if you had a bad day and more than likely end up leaving feeling much better about whatever was troubling you.

Who is that 30 something blonde...

How many pages was that thread and how many years did that last? She always looked like she just smelled an onion. Antii had a crush on her. Ok he wasn't alone. 😜

The one that was behind the Wild bench for years?

My favorite Wild message board memories were the epic battles between ourselves and the Canucks trolls / fans.  Usually you'd end up with some meme's and some great zingers to halt the other in their tracks.  Fargo, and some of the other members of the old guard had some pretty nice battles.

Another one that stands out; was when we had a Switzerland-based fan come in and tell us that Petteri Nummelin was like Bobby Orr.  When we shredded such a ridiculous comparison, he started firing nationalistic insults.  It was fun sparring back with uncomfortable moments in history and other points of national diplomacy.  After it was blatantly obvious Nummelin wasn't even close to Orr, he disappeared and never returned.

Another memory were occasional people that would show up to demand that the team become the North Stars again.

But perhaps the best memory, albeit more personal was the trip to Laughlin, NV with PtoJoneser, AngelinaE, MNSlappy and his wife.  We won the trip through Wild fan line to Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort & Casino.  While the casino wasn't that great, we had a ton of fun and kept as hockey as we could which wasn't easy in a place that seemed hostile to hockey as much as it could be.  The mud puddle bar incident was both sad and hilarious.  But I think overall we got the last laugh.

Hey, does anyone have saved to their computers or Photobucket accounts any of the great pics that Maka put together to troll the 13 year old Canucks fans? Especially the tricked out short bus?

I think PTO or Antti had them saved at one point.

Holy buckets......I found the maka images. I somehow found an archived classic thread from the old message boards:

The Vancouver Canucks taunts...ahhh...such good memories.  I will also not forget going to the 2011 Draft with MNSOTA and Illa Zilla (KissArmyMan).  We may have loathed some of the things the Wild did, but we still had a lot of fun and I'd love to go back to another draft someday.

I won't forget the chance to meet so many Wild Message board people back in the Club 216 days.  Antti Laxative, Angelina E, Dilbert, Pto, FairbaultGopherGuy, SteveAndFlipper...damn so much fun!

The hilarious little meme / video OldTimeHockey did about the Chris Simon trade was fan-freakin'-tastic...some of the other Wild Satire threads were great too!

Maybe my favorite joke was about Pascal Dupuis; who used to have this strange tendency to skate into the zone and literally take a slap shot just inside of the blueline and he'd miss 5-6 feet wide.  We teased his lack of accuracy relentlessly and I remember the jab someone gave how he couldn't even drop a piece of candy into a trick-or-treater's bucket.  Not sure why but I laughed about that for hours.  Damn those were some fun times!

I have quite a lot of interesting stuff that I remember right now. Here's first a few of them.

  • When I arrived on the boards like more than a decade ago, My avatar was a picture of my village where I was living at that time, a small little village suspended at a cliff, facing a lake, all the guy asked me if I was even been up to that moutain and sang "Ricola".
  •
  • I remember the guy Sixfootten. Thank to him I learned the "urban dictionary" and all the terms with it. When it was question to know whether John Torchetti should be re-signed, he just answered things like "Green light 2 this bytch, U ungreatful wipe". Another terms in my mind that came across: "numbnutz", "bytchwipe", and my favourite: "Whorebotz". As english not being my mother tongue, this sounds to me quite funny in a way.

  • Oh yeah, and the some of trash-talk I had with Fargo. He has is own way when it comes to argumentation, but he really has a clue. We had some harsh discussion, but overall I quite often agree with him. I'm wondering if he will join the others here, I hope so.

I remember this discussion ! At the time I was still living in Switzerland and I was surprised to see another guy coming from there. But then it got nasty.

The only time I made mention to Nummelin is that we was something like .700 in the shootout record, the best of the league at that time, suggesting that he should always be in the list.

A shootout specialist, but the comparison was just as ridiculous then as it is now.  The Legion guy; the other Swiss poster we're talking about here.  Yea, it got personal and became a giant history / nationalism rant.  But it was a legendary thread.

We had a bunch of other international posters.  JencaHungary, CoolSlovak...they added some great flavor to the boards beyond you and Janisku.  I hope Fargo comes here but I could see him saying to hell with it too.
